Quiet in Feb

Nice river front sites on the Ten-Tom waterway. You get to watch river barges approaching the lock/dam. HOT showers. Facilities are aging but in good condition.

Shady & spacious campground along the Tenn-Tom with a boat ramp on calm water just off the main channel. Take your bikes and kayaks!

Nice Peacefull park

This park is a little out of the way but well worth it.  The sites are spacious and spaced well apart.  Almost all of the spots are well shaded .  The whole park is well kept, and so very peaceful. We enjoyed our stay here.

Camping in Nature

First things first, don’t follow the GPS! It will take you to the recreation area and you will have to turn around. The campground can’t be seen from the main road. Take side road on left when you see the welcome to Alabama sign on the right. If you are coming from the other direction, you’ll pass the recreation area before you get to the road to turn on. Camping was great! We had a pull through. It was quiet. Bring the mosquito spray, you’ll need it!! Spaces are nice. Be sure to check out the mirror lake within the campground. There are wooded walking docks to walk on. Really pretty! Caught a chicken hawk eating. No issues. Staff is nice. Campground does get a little flooded when it rains, but it didn’t impact our space. Stayed twice within the month. Frogs were loud the first time, second time it was peaceful.

Tombigbee Barges Up Close

Site 129 is directly on the water with a front row seat for watching the boats and barges. Another pleasant COE campground with friendly and helpful staff. Our stay from 3/14-17/21 is overcast with the threat of tornadoes the evening after we depart. The weather discourages us from paddling, but we enjoy walking through this 176 site campground. Bathhouses and grounds are clean.

Great Swampy Views

Fairly well maintained park. Our site backed up to a swampy portion. Wonderful wooden bridges allowed it to be explored easily.

Bath houses were dated but serviceable.

Verizon service was flaky and bounced between no service to slow.

The owls were loud - which was great. Pretty sure we heard barge traffic foghorns, but they didn’t bother our sleep.

The water ran brown for a while. I’m guessing it just hadn’t been used at our site over winter. It cleared up after a minute and I flushed it for another 5.

I loved it - but maybe because it was my first swamp experience and the weather was nice and cool. I’d imagine the bugs are thick in summer. But that’s nature!

Great as always

Have camped here for years and it is always a very well kept campground. Pads are all level, water and some sewer hook ups are available. Bathrooms are always cleaned regularly. Due to covid they have a limit and you now have to book online at recreation.gov, they do not take cash or card at the gate.

We got to enjoy the park and try out our new Overlanding setup. The river is always so peaceful even when the barges are moving all night.

Good basic campground

Large sites, clean bathrooms. Sadly the playground and basketball courts were closed and we didn’t know. We were on the riverside loop, we drove around to the other areas and it was overgrown. We will probably stay here again.

Nice Campground

We visit Pickensville Campground a lot because my MIL lives in Pickensville down the road from the campground. Friendly staff. We stayed at site 126. It was on the river across from the bathrooms. Site we stayed at had power and water hookups. They have a community dumping station. I think some of the sites have sewer hookup but ours didn’t.

The Slums

While the title may scare you away, it was actually quite a nice scene. The lady at the check in told us that’s where the lot we chose was located. We were the only ones who weren’t afraid of the title, so we had it all to ourselves. Clean bathrooms and a Dollar General right down the road. $40 for 1 night with electricity hook up.
