Shoshone National Forest's Brown Mountain Campground sits along a river in a remote stretch of Wyoming backcountry, with rough access that limits RVs to 16 feet or shorter. Amenities are minimal, with vault toilets the only facility on-site. Reviewers note open views and bear activity in the area, so food storage precautions apply. Campers using this as a base while avoiding Yellowstone reservation crowds have found it a workable overnight stop. Wood River Campground sits nearby for those wanting a comparable alternative, and tent campgrounds near Shoshone National Forest offer additional options across the broader forest.
Description
This campground hosts seven sites along the beautiful Wood River. The ghost town of Kirwin is located 15 miles west (rough road, 4-wheel drive recommended). This site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments. There is no cell service available. Maximum spur 16 feet with the exception of one spur of 40 feet. No garbage service is available. Please Pack It Out.
