The road in has washboard sections but is generally manageable for most vehicles at a controlled speed. Larger rigs should plan carefully: sites are not level, and finding a turnaround for a 36-foot trailer can be a real challenge. Tent campers may find site selection tighter on busy weekends, particularly around holidays and the start of hunting season, when spots fill early. Cell coverage varies by location; Verizon has shown usable 4G signal in spots, while T-Mobile reception is less reliable.
The terrain mixes wooded slopes with open grassy areas. Late spring brings wildflowers, and the aspen stands shift to yellow by fall. Kevin C. describes "beautiful patches of wildflowers, the wooded slopes, and soft green grass." At least one visitor spotted a black bear on the hillside coming in, so standard food storage practices apply. The 16-day stay limit gives longer-term campers some flexibility.
