Beautiful and quiet

Primitive site with no bathroom, but bear box and fire ring at campsite #2. Gas station not too far down 26 has bathrooms and showers. Great area, close enough to Yellowstone, Tetons, and Jackson for day trips. Beautiful views! Quiet area. Only minus was that the mosquitoes were unbearable in the evenings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Buffalo Valley suitable for RV camping or primarily for tent camping?

Buffalo Valley dispersed camping accommodates both tent and RV camping, though it's primarily primitive in nature. The sites are undeveloped with no hookups available. Some designated spots, like campsite #2, feature amenities such as a fire ring and bear box. RV campers should be prepared for boondocking conditions and should check road accessibility before arrival, especially during or after wet weather. Smaller to medium-sized RVs will likely have an easier time accessing and using these sites.

What rules and regulations apply to dispersed camping in Buffalo Valley?

Buffalo Valley dispersed camping follows standard Forest Service dispersed camping regulations. Campsites have designated fire rings that must be used for any campfires. Some sites include bear boxes, which should be utilized for proper food storage in this bear country. The standard 14-day stay limit likely applies, though it's best to verify current regulations with the local Forest Service office. Pack out all trash and practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve this beautiful area.

Where is Buffalo Valley dispersed camping located in Wyoming?

Buffalo Valley dispersed camping is located in the scenic region between Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and the town of Jackson, Wyoming. Situated along Highway 26, it offers a strategic base camp for exploring these major attractions. The area features beautiful mountain views and provides a quieter alternative to the more crowded park campgrounds, while still allowing convenient day trips to the national parks and Jackson.

What amenities or facilities are available near Buffalo Valley dispersed camping?

Buffalo Valley dispersed camping offers primitive camping with minimal on-site amenities. Some sites include fire rings and bear boxes. For more facilities, a gas station located down Highway 26 provides bathrooms and showers. The campground's proximity to Jackson means additional services are within reasonable driving distance. There are no drinking water sources, trash receptacles, or toilet facilities directly at the camping area, so campers should come prepared with sufficient water and a plan for waste management.
