Backcountry site 4D2 sits on the east shore of Ice Lake within Yellowstone National Park, reached by a flat 1.5-mile hike from the Ice Lake trailhead. The site accommodates up to eight people across a large, level camping area with room for multiple tents, a rock fire ring with log seating, and a food storage pole for bear hangs. Views of the lake are visible from camp. A permit is required for overnight use, and all waste must be packed out. The flat terrain and short approach make this site a reasonable entry point for those new to backpacking in campgrounds around Yellowstone National Park.
