Backcountry site 4D1 sits on the northern shore of Ice Lake, less than a mile from the trailhead. Flat ground along the water makes tent setup straightforward. No fires are permitted at this site. The bear pole for food storage is located roughly 100 feet down the main trail, unmarked but easy to spot. The site accommodates up to six people with a three-night maximum stay. Campers planning a multi-day route through the park can find places to camp around Yellowstone National Park to round out an itinerary. The nearby 4D2 Yellowstone National Park Backcountry sits 0.6 miles east if 4D1 is unavailable. Permits are required; book through the NPS backcountry office before arriving.
