This gets 5 stars if I am camping alongside the river. Normally, I look for seclusion, but in this case, I enjoy watching the river flow by. The river barges navigate the river day and night, so you do get engine noises and spotlights at night as they keep track of their location along the shore. Across the river you have city lights reflecting in the water.
Stayed here with my son about ten years ago, and he loved it. Returned recently, and my wife said she wouldn't stay there. The lake water is like green paint and the river is now brackish, but moving. Got the impression of a beer drinking hideaway.
Chose this campground for the low light pollution in order to watch a meteor shower. Very nice recreation area with a nice beach. Two cons worth noting, but not enough to dock a rating; 1) it cost $7 per day extra for the vehicle I used to tow my camper to the campsite, wtf! 2) popular with young families, so it got loud on the weekend.
4th of July weekend and I can't see or hear my neighbors. Beautiful pines and sandstone cliffs surround the campsite
