Description

State Park

Scenic Beach State Park is a 121-acre camping park with 1,500 feet of saltwater beachfront on Hood Canal. The restored 1912 Emel House, plus a gazebo and stellar views have made it a popular wedding venue. The park is known for its wild, native rhododendrons in spring.

The park has 50 standard campsites, two hiker/biker sites, one dump station, two restrooms (both ADA) and four showers. Eighteen pull-through sites accommodate 32-foot camping units (no hookups). Quiet in Offseason

The campground itself was nice and quiet in January. I think there were a few other campers based on the website’s reservation page but they weren’t near our site and we didn’t hear anyone while we were in the campground. The larger loop is closed during the off season so there was a lot of space to explore and we got a good look at all the different kinds of sites. I agree with previous reviewers that the campground itself feels pretty remote even though it is in the middle of a residential area. The state park was a different story, however. Very busy, lots of day use.

The frustration I have with all state park campgrounds (this one included) is their fees. It’s $20/night, which is reasonable during the season when there are amenities but it is unreasonable when there are no amenities during the off season. The dump station was closed at this one and there was no water, not even a communal spigot. The bathrooms in the campground were also closed. What am I paying for? We already paid for a pass to access the park. There’s a lot less maintenance of the campground in the off season. There should be little to no fee from October through May, which is what many other kinds of campgrounds do.

I love this campground

Camping at SB is a pleasure. It’s an easy drive from Seattle, the views are quite literally scenic and the sites are private. And there are showers. They could use an update, but oh how nice it is to get a shower while camping.

Beautiful and Private

This is a beautiful park. I moved from the west side of Hood Canal to the east side before heading to Olympic so I could access stores and resupply. This was my first park where I actually felt like I was camping. The sites are all well-spaced and set in the forest so there is lots of privacy. Being from CA I would just call the beach “different” but I loved my stay there nonetheless. The ranger on duty while I was there was super helpful– especially when I went the wrong way on a one-way loop.

Nice campsite area

Very nice campsites with picnic tables and a fire pit. A little walk to the bathrooms. We stayed in a non hookup site. Car camped & in the morning went to the beach area and walked around.

Small but beautiful

Loved this place. The view from the beach is breathtaking. It’s my favorite place in Kitsap County. Make sure you come at low tide or you won’t have much beach to walk on. Great place to bring a picnic. The campground has nice and secluded spots. You aren’t right on top of each other. There are trees in between which is nice. There are also playgrounds for the kids which is nice. Bathrooms are a little bit of a walk but that’s nice in its own way. They are secluded and you have to walk down a small trail. Definitely recommend this place especially if you have little kids.

Best WA State Park Camping So Far

Nice clean, spacious and private sites. Peaceful as well with the only noises being the expected kids playing and normal campground noise. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The showers were pay to use, probably our main complaint since for $35 for a tent site usually means it includes free showers at state parks elsewhere. The kids loved the playgrounds and the beach, which had great views of the Hood Canal and the Olympics. AT&T service was good.

Beautiful views and well maintained

Spacious campsites with tons of privacy tucked back from the road. In the off season only the front section of the campground is open, but thats not a problem since maybe 5 other sites were occupied. Everything was very well maintained and I frequently saw the camp host driving around and stopping to clean up various sites. $20 a night for all sites during the off-season. Cell service was usually one to two bars.

The bathrooms were clean with flushable toilets and were stocked with soap and TP. I didn’t check out the showers.

The best part about this campground is the beach. Its a short walk down from the campground. It has beautiful views of mountains across the water on a clear day. There’s lots of picnic tables in the area. The beach itself is covered in rocks and oyster shells. When I was there it was almost always totally empty besides myself. Nothing better than a beautiful view all to yourself!

Wonderful place

Great place to camp. Big spaces for tents tucked away from other campers. The beach is a short walk away. Real flushing toilets no porta potties. RV dump station only $5.

Great place!

We've always loved coming here and the camping was fantastic. We had site 16, which is a pull-through site. We have a 25ft trailer and there was more than enough room. The camping area was quite large with a fire pit and a picnic table. Bathrooms/showers were close by as well as trash cans and water. The beach was about a 10 minute walk for us, but would be more like 6 without toddlers and dogs. Bring your swim stuff, there's excellent swimming in the afternoon! All of the campsites are very private and nicely spaced. I highly recommend this campground!

Best campground in WA

Our family’s favorite campground! This campground is unique in how private the sites are with an unusual amount of foliage between sites. Two playgrounds and beautiful beach.

Great spot for shrimping!

We have stayed here during our annual shrimping trips. The site is in a valley so when heavy rainfall happens you will get muddy, swampy sites. During sunshine, the place is great.

Bathrooms and showers on site, though showers will cost you. Sites are pretty open, though there are a few that are a bit hidden. Lots of areas to hike and explore, even a hidden waterfall a short drive away.

Great for shrimping, clamming and oyster hunting. Tons of wildlife, and great trails nearby.

Totally Comfortable

The campsite is well maintained. Very clean. Easily accessible water and easy access to the beach. We got a bit lost while walking the trails to the beach. More signs would be nice for fool's like us.

A nice forested, spacious campground. As a former RV camper I really appreciated the pull through sites and extra parking spots around the camp.
