LegendStayed here for the first time in July 2021. I understand this opened last winter. Talking to the host, I found out it is far more popular in winter when ski season is open. It was quiet and sparsely filled in July on a Friday and Saturday night.
3 different areas respectively for large RV and 50 amps power, small RVs and 30 amp and tent only area. A fee picnic tables (no benches) available toward the tent only area. Bathroom are just two sani-cans. Relatively clean. There is trash and recycling behind the office which is adjacent to the host RV.
Free WI-Fi (the host will give you code) and good LTE connection on AT&T.
Silver Creek runs behind the lot and gives a bit more of a natural feel. Otherwise you are in a giant parking lot (Lot B).
Can't beat the location for skiing and hiking or biking at Crystal Mountain!
GuideThis is the cleanest, most cared for camping site I have ever been to. The owners Tom and Brian, make your stay very enjoyable. They care about you having a great experience, whether you’re a first time camper or a seasoned camper. They have a great store with snacks, wine, beer, and local sourced goods. They have games you can use while you are there, like corn hole and board and card games, free of charge. Sites are large for travel trailers and motor homes, they also have tent and group sites. Trailer and motor home sites have power and water, there is a dump station you can use on your way home free of charge. The bathrooms are large and very clean, the shower is 4 quarters for 6 minutes, those of us who try to take a 3 minute shower in our rigs so we don’t run through all the hot water so our partner can have a shower without waiting for the water to get hot again it’s a blessing. In the evening Tom or Brian drive through the park seeing if anyone needs ice or firewood, if there’s not a burn ban, bring a propane fire pit for your camping experience. They also sell propane so no fears on running out. The best thing is you are under a large canopy of trees which helps to keep you cool even on the hottest days. There is a small creek to put your chair in and put your feet in the water. Our first year there we brought 4 other people, this year it was 28. We make Elkcamp our yearly get together. Family friendly and a great place to unwind. You’re only a few miles from mineral lake, bring your trunks, inner tube, or your paddle boards. I’d give it a solid 10 out of 10.
TravelerWe stayed in Site 11 for 2 nights at the end of June 2025.
The campground is located on the side of HWY 12 on a small rocky peninsula, this surprising spot on Rimrock Lake (reservoir created by the dams built about 100 years ago) is run by a retired couple for the last 5 years (as of summer 2025).
It offers a boat launch, 25 or so sites of mixed services (ranging from full hookup [elect/water/sewer] to basic site with picnic table and firepit), and a couple of cabins, and a bath-house on the east side (2 separate restrooms with shower stalls).
The sites are mostly back in, with a few (like site 11) that are pull-through.
The western side sites (1 - 17?) have beautiful views, but the typical afternoon/evening wind can be quite, well, windy, while the eastern side is sheltered from the wind. We hiked around the small peninsula and the wind disappeared.
The small office has a few snacks and camping items but isn't open all the time - only when the owner couple is around.
If you are going to go hiking, you only need to drive a few miles west on Hwy 12 to find several other public campgrounds and some nice scenery, while continuing west up towards the pass and ski resort area on Hwy 12 has several scenic viewpoints that you should plan to stop at for a few minutes each (Lava Falls, etc).
The lake itself is rather sparsely used (one or two boats or a jet ski way off in the distance). We had three very friendly chipmunks who visited our site often and were happy to sit on the old stump and join our camp.
GuideThis campground is on Mayfield Lake where the Cowlitz River flows into the lake. We were in loop D, which was the only open loop along with the cabins (cabins are loop C and attached to loop D). This is a partial hook-up loop. Full hook-ups are in loop A. The campground is heavily wooded which is really nice for shade, though it can make it tricky to get into a spot if you have slide outs. As we were on the outer part of the loop in a pull-through site, we had a view of the woods and quite a bit of space between neighboring sites. We could not see either of the neighboring sites while sitting by our campfire. There was a trail to the trash compactor next to our site, but it did not seem to be heavily used. The trash compactor is probably a good 1/4 mile down this trail by the dump station. It was very quiet at night, which was fantastic! Very good Verizon cell service. The day use area is out of the campground and across the main road. There is a playground and beach area. It would have been nice if there was a playground on the campground side of the park.
GuideWe stayed 3 nights at Toutle River RV Resort now owned by RV Inn Style chain. Quiet and respectful campers with paroling friendly staff. I5 access is perfect, although road and train noise could be bothersome for some campers as the campground is nestled in between. The camp store and pool were open. The playground, disk golf and basketball hoops accessible but the pickle ball courts had been removed since we last visited. Sites range from open to treed with many of the pick nick tables needing refurbished. Full hookups with gravel pads for 70+$$ per night. WiFi isn’t free, must be purchased. We had spotty cell service with Verizon though we were directly off I5 corridor. The public restrooms were clean, but mostly under construction while we were camping. Many full timers w/park models and trailer/RV’s sprinkled throughout the park. All-in-all we will stay here again in the future and happy to do so.
LegendNice campground on the SW corner of Mt Rainier NP. We were here in the off season, meaning that reservations are not taken and everything is FCFS. You stop at the ranger office at the campground entrance and you’re given a campsite. $20/night. Zero cell service in this whole area (but there was good cell reception and wifi at Paradise, and free wifi at the museum 2 miles down at Longmire).
There are water spigots at this campground, flush toilets, no showers, trash dumpsters, and glass, plastic, and aluminum recycling. Each site has a picnic table, bear box, and fire pit. The dump station has been non operational for several years and the ranger said she doesn’t think it’ll ever be fixed.
The length limit here is 35 ft for a motorhome, and us at 28 ft head to toe felt very big here. The Wonderland Trail hike can be accessed from this campground, just across the road. Lots of trees in this campground, and we struggled to keep our batteries charged via solar, though there looked to be enough open sky for starlink (we don’t have starlink so I can’t say). All the loops here in this campground are pretty similar in layout and landscape.

We got site 106 which was the furthest one out, it was right along the river. The site has a concrete slab and fit our Jayco 174BH perfectly.
This site does is a back in, but the slab is at a 90 degree angle from the drive. So you will have to back your trailer around a corner if you plan to park it on the slab. Didn't see other sites like this.
The campground did have a very small selection of items to buy, but mainly snacks. They do fill propane tanks, but only during week days.
The site had water and electrical, but no sewer connections. they do have a nice dump station.
The camp ground itself did have at least 2 pet areas neither are fenced so a leash is required, along with a playground for the kids.
We have Verizon and had no issues with cell signal at this campground.
Also, this is a private campground, so they have a guy that stands at the gate to open it when guests come arrive.
LegendQuaint and quiet town. Small quiet park with electric and water and a dump station. Site two is a pull through that is not set up right to have your awning on the correct side (see photo). Other pull through was too small for our 33’ tt. Sites adequately spaced for some privacy. Nice playground for kids and horseshoe courts. Dog friendly. Nice drive over white pass from Yakima.
LegendWe are full-timers in a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow, were meeting friends in the area and visiting Mt. Rainier. The CG has seen some recent improvements, including graveling of the 12 campsite pads. Some of the sites have picnic tables, none of them have fire pits, and only one, site 12, has a grill. We were in site 2 for 4 days in early September. Ours was one of 2 pull-throughs, but ours was on the inside of the loop, which put the utilities on the correct side, but the awing side was close to the road and a large tree, so we had to setup chairs and such on the utility side. Most of the sites are pretty well spaced. There were only a handful of campers here when we arrived on the Friday before the Labor Day weekend and come Saturday, there were only two left besides us. Unfortunately, one of the two remaining was a long-timer, maybe the grounds keeper(?), who often let his little dog run loose in the CG, and though friendly enough, it barked at those who passed near it. The park has a playground and a coin operated water fountain for the kids. There is an elementary school next door, so it can get a little raucous when the kids are outside. There were quite a few low hanging branches throughout the CG, but most were fairly small. I did mention this to the Toledo City Hall, who said they would put it on the list. Although there is a faded“Free WiFi Zone” as you enter the park, we were not able to detect one. AT&T coverage good, ranging from 3-4 Bars of LTE with speeds up to 15 MB/s.
