Reservations are available online, making Lewis North Travel Camp at Joint Base Lewis McChord a plannable stop for eligible visitors, though access is restricted to active military, reservists, retirees, Department of Defense personnel, and their families. Sites run $12 to $35 per night and include full water, sewer, and electric hookups. The camp sits near a lake in open terrain close to I-5, with good AT&T cell coverage reported by multiple reviewers, and Starlink has worked at some sites as well.
The facilities are functional and well-maintained. Two separate bathhouse buildings provide heated restrooms, showers, and laundry, though at least one reviewer noted the dryers don't heat up reliably. Not every site has a fire ring, so it's worth confirming that detail when booking. The Northwest Adventure Center on site stocks firewood and propane and handles check-in, along with rentals of sporting equipment and watercraft. Campers have used the lake for fishing and paddling, and the surrounding area gives access to walking and biking routes, military museums, and a nearby commissary and PX.
The layout is somewhat compact, and a few reviewers mention the camp can feel tight during busy periods. Daytime noise from highway traffic and military aircraft, particularly CH-47s, is noticeable, though nights tend to be quieter. Pets are permitted with a limit of two dogs per reservation. Those sensitive to ambient noise may want to consider Holiday Park Military - Lewis McChord Base as an alternative. This camp works best as a practical, affordable base for military-affiliated travelers moving through the Pacific Northwest.
