    Camp Coeur D Alene

Tucked in the side of the mountain on the water

Even though the sites are small and close together, they are at different levels as you go up the hill combined with the sites and cabins being tucked under the giant pines, gives you a sense of privacy. It's a really cute campground/resort. They offer tent area, Rv area and log cabins of various sizes. Pool. Boat launch with access to coeur d'Alene lake. Beautiful setting. Cell signal is good.

    Clear Lake Military

    Excellent facility—beautiful and clean!

Military site with everything you could possibly need—tent, RV, and tiny cabins. This site was very well maintained, and very highly trafficked in the summer. Access to water and excellent for some good old fashioned family fun :)

    Spokane KOA Journey

    Dated, crowded, no shade

We stayed one night in a deluxe cabin. It was spacious enough, with a partial kitchen, AC, and full bath. The grounds are well-kept but older. The cabin was tired—cabinets with loose hinges, squeaky bed, tub drain was slow, WiFi wasn’t working. Each cabin has a propane grill and the one by ours was too dirty to use. There is no shade on the cabins or many of the tent sites and it’s often so hot here in the summer that the AC can’t cool very well. It was 82 in our cabin despite running the AC and keeping all the blinds closed. The pool is clean but very cold and there is no shade on the playground so go in the morning or evening if you don’t want to get burned. Nothing nearly except a Wendy’s and a convenience store. Trains going by all night nearby.
Fine for one night, but don’t recommend an extended stay Note: they do not allow EV charging but there is no written policy anywhere on the website or in any of the registration emails.

Hawleys Landing Campground — Heyburn State Park

    Great Campground but loud maintenance

We stayed at Chatcolet campground for two nights in late June. The campground is really nice with lovely hosts and clean flushable toilets. We booked site 128 and didn’t realise it was a tent only site with a short walk from where you park to the picnic table, fire ring and tent pad. We have a rooftop tent so we parked and set up our tent and then just carried our chairs, food and wood down to the picnic table. Privacy on these sites isn’t the best, I would recommend booking this site along with 129 as a group site to give yourself good privacy.

Overall this campground was great, the toilets were clean, they are porcelain, flushing toilets inside a hut. There was drinking water and some nice walks to the lake, if you have bicycles there is a really nice cycle that you can do. The reason for rating this 3 out of 5 is that there was very noisy and intrusive maintenance going on from 7am to 5pm in the sites next to us which was very disruptive. No warning had been given about maintenance in the campground, notice was only given regarding roadworks leading into the campground.

    Liberty Lake Regional Park

    Quaint & Enjoyable!

Tucked back behind a neighborhood of fairly luxurious homes and sitting near the lake, these sites offer a nice spot to catch a breath while traveling. We stayed at tent site 10 and it has been perfect. $27/night for tent and $38/night for RVs. Pet friendly, great host, facilities, and plenty of space.

The area sits at approximately 2,400 feet elevation in the eastern Washington plateau region, creating warm summer days that typically cool significantly after sunset. Winter cabin accommodations remain available at select locations, though amenities and operating hours become more limited from November through March.

What to do

Water activities at Clear Lake: Clear Lake Recreation Area offers kayak rentals and fishing opportunities from their dock area. "There are plenty of activities for everyone. The scenery is beautiful," notes a visitor about the Clear Lake facilities.

Hiking at Liberty Lake Regional Park: The park maintains multiple trail networks ranging from easy lakeside paths to more challenging forest routes. "There are several hiking trails, including an equestrian trail, waterfall, fishing and lots of wildlife. There were deer in the campground every day, we saw moose, owls, pilated woodpecker, and hawks," shares a Liberty Lake Regional Park guest.

Wildlife viewing: The area supports diverse wildlife observation opportunities across multiple recreation areas. "There's nearby wildlife, including a resident moose. We didn't get to see her but enjoyed looking," reports a visitor to Camp Coeur D'Alene, located within day-trip distance of Airway Heights.

What campers like

Cabin accessibility to attractions: Northern Quest RV Resort provides cabin options with convenient access to local amenities and entertainment. "We really had a great time here. The other campers were so friendly. Easy access to wineries and hikes," notes a Spokane KOA Journey guest about the general area.

Quiet settings despite proximity to highways: Cedar Village offers small cabin rentals that feel removed from nearby roads. "A super sweet cabin out west sort of vibe, convenient to the freeway but removed from the city," describes a Cedar Village Motel & RV visitor.

Family-friendly accommodations: Many cabin options include kitchenettes for convenient meal preparation. "Little cabins for the long stay, with kitchens, the 2 nice cabins come with decks," explains a Cedar Village guest, highlighting the amenities available in select units.

What you should know

Reservation requirements vary seasonally: Peak summer months require advance booking at most facilities, with some requiring reservations months ahead. "We had planned on staying 1 night but loved the atmosphere, so we stayed 2 nights!" shares a Camp Coeur D Alene guest who was fortunate to find availability.

Heating and cooling considerations: Cabins differ significantly in climate control options. "The cabins do have ac and electricity, no water," notes one visitor about the Clear Lake Military cabins, while options at other locations may have more limited temperature regulation.

Cabin sizes and configurations: Most facilities offer limited space suitable for couples or small families. "Smaller campers only. Definitely not made for big rigs or 40'. My only complaint is how tight the campground is," explains a guest at Ruby's Resort, referring to the overall space constraints that apply to their cabin area as well.

Tips for camping with families

Proximity to swimming areas: Select cabins with easy access to swimming spots for warm weather visits. "The camp is close to the freeway and on the edge of the lake. The camp offers tent camping, full service RV camping, and cabins for rent," explains a Camp Coeur D Alene visitor, highlighting one option with direct water access.

Playground access: Some cabin locations include play structures for children. "It has several camping sites, a boat launch, a fishing dock, picnic areas, and a snack bar," mentions a Clear Lake Military visitor about their family-friendly setup.

Activities for multiple age groups: Consider facilities with diverse recreation options to accommodate different interests. "We showed up May 1st, the first day they opened! The campground has beautiful treed sites with lots of amenities. They are redoing the pool, and the bathrooms are very clean," shares a Camp Coeur D'Alene guest.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling considerations: Many cabin locations also accommodate RVs but may require additional equipment. "Nice level concrete slabs," notes a Northern Quest RV Resort visitor about their parking areas.

Noise factors: Consider potential noise sources when selecting cabin location. "This KOA is surrounded by residences and businesses, and also right next to very active train tracks. The trains have been quite frequent day and night," warns a Riverside State Park area visitor about ambient sounds that may affect cabin guests as well.

Utilities and hookups: While cabins typically have electricity, water access varies significantly between locations. "Sites are pretty open not offering a good amount of privacy, though most are along the Spokane River. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, with bbq grate. The site has showers and flushing toilets!" explains a Riverside State Park visitor about the amenities that cabin guests can also access.
