Lewis River Campground Community of Christ

Waterfall enthusiasts will find direct trailhead access to the Lewis River Falls system from this church-operated campground in Heisson, Washington. The facility sits adjacent to the lower falls, with hiking trails leading to middle and upper falls just a few miles upstream. As one camper notes, it's "the kind of campsite that's worth staying at for more than one night."

The campground operates primarily as a group retreat center for churches and organizations, though individual RV sites with full hookups remain available through reservations. The property features a mix of older cabins and newer buildings, plus amenities like playgrounds, soccer fields, and a commercial kitchen. Sites include picnic tables and fire pits, with abundant trees suitable for hammock setup. No pets are permitted on the grounds.

RV campers can access electric, water, and sewer hookups at designated pull-through spots, while the facility also provides restrooms, showers, and WiFi. The campground tends to draw crowds due to its proximity to urban areas and waterfall access. Swimming opportunities exist in the river, though visitors report that while Lucia Falls is nearby, the more impressive cascades lie further upstream along the trail system.

This setup works best for RV travelers seeking waterfall access and groups planning organized retreats, though the church camp atmosphere may not suit those preferring traditional campground settings.

Church camp offering group accommodations near Lewis River waterfalls. Many mentioned crowding and aging cabins, though the natural setting and trail access to falls received positive feedback.

Standard campground close to city

Nothing really special about this place, other than the river. Standard campground that's always crowded because it's close to the city. Lucia falls is close, but not as impressive as those further up the river.

Camp Right at the Falls

Lewis River Campground is right at the trail head and adjacent to the lower falls, so there's plenty to see and do right around the camping area.

In May the campground had just opened and there was still a bit of clean up from winter that hadn't been done-- but the area was still beautiful.

It's just a few miles up the trail to the middle and upper falls, and if you want a longer hike, there is plenty more trail beyond.

Sites are equipped with Picnic tables and a fire pit. Plenty of hammocking trees around. It's the kind of campsite that's worth staying at for more than one night.

Non-profit for groups only, no individual camping

Peaceful setting, room to hike and roam. Across street from east fork of the Lewis River. Cabins, tipis, lodge, and RV park - all for groups such as churches, organizations, schools, etc. No individual camping. Large commercial kitchen and dining hall, Classrooms, nursery, multipurpose building, several fields. Labyrinth. Fire pits. Improvements happening continually.

More Church Camp than Campground.

While yes, this spot is technically open to the public, the Lewis River Campground Community of Christ (unsurprisingly) feels much more like a summer or church camp that the same groups go to over and over again each year. Slightly run down cabins but with some nicer, newer buildings as well. Available to rent for events such as family reunions, I tend to prefer spots you can swing by and grab a spot last-minute among other campers, and this is not that at all.

Just off the road and not far from the Lewis River, if you're looking for more-campground/less summer camp, try any number of other state and forested campgrounds in the area.

Group/Church Camp with Reservations Only

A church camp near Moulton Falls near Washington. The camp has a few RV pull-though spots, but the main part of the campground involves a number of “cabins” that you can only use as part of a large group gathering. Nice playgrounds on site, soccer field, TP, and the like.

Cabins look a bit drab/well loved, depending on your point of view.
