Best RV Parks & Resorts near Iron Gate, VA

This is the only RV park in the Frederick area not at a state park. It's part mobile home part RV. It's not a vacation RV resort in any sense, it's definitely got more long term stays. Everyone had their own private lots which are nice but it is very tightly packed in. Every site has full hookups, cable, and trash service which is great. You are in Frederick so you are close to basically everything. You can walk to Aldi, Panera, amazing local restaurants. You're near Walmart, Target, Sheetz and Wawa. The location cannot be beaten for Frederick. Making reservations was a little nerve-wracking since it's was just said that there was a site available and to call a half-hour before arriving. We arrived with no issues though. It's a little rednecky but everyone is super nice and offers to help. 

Not the best RV park, not the worst. 

All sites are 50amp too so if you have a 30amp rig, you'll need a converter.

Lots of long term residents in dirty rundown campers. Trash dumpsters are always full. 

Bathrooms and showers are always clean. Full hookups at most sites. Staff very friendly. 

Laundry on site as well. Do not try and come in after dark. Very tight and very dark.

Can’t remember our lot # we were a lot away from the gate, it was used a lot and all night long. People working in DC using the campground as their residence, leaving 5ish because of traffic to be encountered. Well hopped up diesel pickups, non-baffled Harley exhausts. Our camper is incredibly quiet so we closed the windows a slept. 60% were long term residents of the campground. Our sight was one of the few semi- isolated.

Great staff and pleasantly surprised with the campground. We were worried about the road noise but where we were was fine. Picnic tables and fire pits, full hook-ups and plenty of trees

Pam’s got jokes! I believe she is the owner or maybe just the long term host. Either way awesome lady and made us laugh. I have stayed here a couple times.

Lots of cool little camps along the creek. Group site is secluded, and spacious.

Bathrooms are clean. Water is so hot it hurts. Laundry area. Large sink for dishes. Even a little free library.

The “clutter” others mention is irrelevant to the camp. Seems to just be in the private areas.

my family and I were guest at the Resort over Columbus Day weekend. We were at the Resort in October 2019 and remember how well it was kept up and clean and we looked forward to returning, not the case this weekend we were disappointed on how dirty, trashy and gloomy the Resort has become. Many of the long-term camping sites looked dirty and the trailers are not being kept up or maintained. Some sites had trash bags thrown around. The showers were dirty with bugs everywhere, definitely did not want to experience a shower in there.

Our family group had reserved three campsites and a chalet. We all had problems. When we made the reservations you ask, and we told you, the size of our campers. One was a large motorhome given a site which they could never fit and at luckily the office was open to make a change. Another camper was put in a site which was so small they could not use their awning and very close to their neighbor who were using their hook-ups, they too had to be moved. Your reservation personnel needs to be familiar with what size campers can go in what slots. It looks bad on you that they do not know the layout of the campground.

As for my site I was in #90. The site was un-level and uneven, a 15% incline, which I could not get the camper level. Sites all around me (89,91,92,93) were more level than what I had to deal with. With the incline issue I also had a sewage problem where the pipes were higher than the camper and I could not empty my tanks, water does not go up-hill. After the rain Saturday evening into Sunday we discovered the sewage line was clogged and we had the smell of sewage. There was trash and kids toys scattered around the site. I would also recommend that the fire pit be moved into site 90, right now it is in the middle of 89 and 90 and if used it could do damage to another camper or hurt someone in the process.

Since I could not dump on my site - because it was clogged I had to go to the dump station. Your pipe is 2-feet off the ground and was even with the camper so the sewage couldn’t go down and I had to get my mother to hold it so I could walk the lines up. This is not right, no one likes to deal with sewage. Suggest you cut the pipe down so sewage can go down in the pipe.

We also had family members staying in the Chalet and loved it, HOWEVER they mentioned how the water was brown and dirty and smelled so they were afraid of drinking it or taking a shower.

Needless to say we all were disappointed in our stay and remarked how much the Resort had declined and not been maintained which is sad because it used to be nice. We will not be returning and will not give a recommendation.

Decent campground here suitable for campers new and old. Have tent, full hook up RV sites and even cabin sites for the families who just want the comfort of a home. The sites and clean and spacious. The bathrooms are also clean and have hot showers.

The are tons of amenities here. Really great for beginner campers. There a water park type thing here. Hiking, biking, swimming, fishing. Downfall there's a shooting range near by so can be kind of noisy or at least it was the night we were here. Lots of history near by so check out the old battle fields and buildings that housed troops during civil war. Very cool stuff:

We had a fantastic time our 1st time at #AdventureBoundCampingResort in Lothian, Maryland. While at the campsite, we met a great guy from East Tennessee, Steve, who was in the Air Force, and he was as nice as could be. We had arrived after dark on Friday and Steve came over to offer to help with the tent setup but we wanted to do it all on our own in true “girl power” form! But after rethinking it, we decided to sleep in the car!!!! 😂 Next morning we arose to setup our sitewe had an absolutely wonderful time doing it .That is, until the rain came about 1am Sunday morning! It rained and rained and rained and rained and rained! Not only did it wake us, it started us thinking what we’d do with a WET TENT! I was going to stay another day just to let the tent dry out but, it’s going to rain all day into Monday. And then! My oldest granddaughter felt ill and had to be picked up by her mom! I was left with my two little munchkins, Michaela and Samaijah to take everything down — in the constant rain!!! Well, we decided to head over to Home Depot to get ponchos for us and McDonald’s for their promised pancake breakfast, then headed back to start the task of breaking down our camp site. With the help of my little munchkins, we packed everything up and loaded the car in no time. The only thing left was the wet tent! I decided to forego the folding and just gather it up and put it in a garbage bag just to get us home and out if the rain — that worked for them too!! They did a great job and were a true representation of the saying “little but mighty”! Steve and many of the long term campers were military and construction workers, in addition to senior citizens. Saturday night seems to be the neighbors party night so it was quite lively with music and laughter. This camp has electric and water at each site, clean toilet and shower facilities, playground and pool.

We just stayed one night as we were passing through the area, but we were very impressed by this park. It is huge, but so pretty and clean. There’s multiple bath houses, playgrounds and even pools. There is also a mini golf course and splash park. We were there in the winter, so some things were closed for the season.

The gift shop has just about everything you could possibly want or need. We were able to get souvenirs and also some necessities for our RV.

The bus spots right at the entrance to the park, which is super helpful for getting to downtown DC for sightseeing.

We are already planning our next visit to this park and can’t wait!

I’m local to Frederick MD, and this is a mobile home neighborhood, apparently with some new spots available for travelers — not an RV park. The location is awesome if you just need somewhere to park for a few nights while you go do stuff all day in the Frederick area. But its a tiny area wedged between the back of Lowes and a very busy road, so dont expect anything relaxing, or scenic, or anything for kids to do on the “park” grounds.

Around 60 RV level sites that have 110/30/50 but no water hookup. Drop point on-site and amenities are 6x individual ADA compliant all-gender that are large enough to fit a family. Sie has The Water Mine park, sports grounds, picnic and other camping. Staff are v.helpful.

Ugh, this was one of the worst campgrounds we have stayed at in our twelve years of full-time RVing. First of all, the sites are very close together. Our site (which was#20 on the map but the number at our electric post was#102, go figure!) was supposed to be a pull-thru but we had to unhook the car because the site was so short and hard to get into due to narrow roads and tight turns with trees. The park is definitely not big-rig friendly, and all the sites are very close. There are many seasonals with old, dilapidated campers with lots junk around them. 

We assume they call themselves a “resort” because there is a swimming pool, mini-golf, pavilion, playground, rental cabins, ball fields, dog park and a fishing pond, but it didn’t live up to the standards we consider for a resort. The mini-golf was in horrible condition. Everything was old and run-down. The “chalets” where super outdated, there was trash everywhere in the campground. Lots of seasonal sites with junk everywhere at their site. Behind us was a family who left their mean-looking barking dog chained to the tree all the time. The bathrooms are super outdated, and we wouldn’t even go in. Luckily, we had a full hook-up site. The nicest looking area of the park is the 8,000 square-ft Clubhouse which has a café, game room, adult lounge, wide screen tv, fitness center, and jacuzzi. We were there early in the season so some amenities were closed. There are farm animals on the property and a petting zoo with pigs, horses, ponies, goats, ducks, etc. They have a busy summer schedule of events which I’m sure entertains the kids and adults, but we weren’t staying long enough to participate. 

Inside the brochure you get when you check-in are two-pages of guidelines and rules (which I doubt anyone reads). One of rules (#8) states that you have to clean up your area prior to departure, but since the seasonals weren’t departing I guess all the trash around their site was acceptable. That rule also states that fire pits have to be clean to fire pits but there were many fire pits full of trash.  

I was a little nervous plugging into our electrical post which was completely wobbly and barely attached to anything and literally held together with packing tape– visions of an unpleasant electrocution experience flashed in my head. There is no cable but we were able to get seven over-the-air antenna channels (only one major network– ABC). All the utilities were at the back of our site and it took me a few minutes to find the sewer outlet which was near our neighbors designated parking spot. I suppose the only good thing was that Skyline Ranch Resort is a Passport America park and we only paid $35+tax/night for a 50-amp FHU site (which would have been the ridiculous high price of $70 otherwise). The only reason the campground gets two stars is because it was cheap for FHU. We would NOT stay here again.
