Kitchen Corral Wash

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Free dispersed camping on BLM land outside Kanab, Kitchen Corral Wash sits along a dirt road that multiple reviewers confirm is accessible without four-wheel drive. A posted sign at the road's entrance warns that 4WD is required, but campers in 26-foot Class C rigs, camper vans, and standard SUVs have all reached the first pullout without issue. Some washboarding and plant growth in the driving lane are worth noting, particularly for low-clearance vehicles.

The first pullout has two established fire rings and enough flat, open space to accommodate larger rigs with room to turn around. Crowd levels tend to run low. Cell coverage from AT&T and Verizon comes in at one bar or less, enough for texts but not reliable for internet use or remote work. Road noise from the nearby highway is audible but registers as a distant hum rather than an intrusion. Coyotes, on the other hand, may be louder at night.

"The brush and the red buttes," one reviewer wrote, capture what draws campers to this stretch of southern Utah. Those with four-wheel drive can explore a road further in that climbs to cliff-top views in multiple directions. The area sits within campgrounds around BLM Land — Kanab Field Office, and nearby options include Kitchen Corral Wash Dispersed Site to the north and Paria Townsite turnoff further along the highway. This spot works well for RV travelers and van campers who want a free overnight with minimal setup.

So Great

I love this part of the world — the brush and the red buttes. The road, like others have said, is fine (albeit pretty bumpy). At least until the first turnoff. That’s as far as I needed to go. Big space to turn the rig around as well at the first turnoff. Places like this are why I got an RV.

Loved this little spot

You do not need 4-wheel drive to get to this parking area however I will say I was there in Aug 24’ and there was a lot of plant growth in the driving area to drive over. Nothing that would scratch my suv up but just noting in case someone decides to take a sedan back this way. I was the only one there and it was quiet and peaceful. I did get some service on AT&T but it wasn’t good for using the internet. Texting was fine.

Easy and close to the road

Thanks to the good review and info regarding 4x4vehicle not mandatory we went on that place for the night.we were alone and had a good night despite the proximity with the road we barely heard it. Less than the coyotes during cooking ^^ We recommend the place. Only weak point is the sun coming late, we ate breakfast in the shadow early morning.

Great, Free, Easy

As other reviewers have said, disregard the sign at the beginning of the road saying that a 4x4 is required for this road. We made it to the first pullout fine in our 26ft class c. Maybe further in the road gets rougher, but as far as reaching the boondock spots the road is ok, just some washboarding in the dirt.

The first pullout is large with an easy turnaround for trailers and large rigs and there are several flat areas. There were two fire rings set up so I’m guessing when it gets busy you may need to share, though we didn’t see anyone in this area at all when we stayed.

You can hear the road but it sounds like a distant whoosh and it’s not obnoxious. Cell service is ok, weak but usable for ATT and Verizon. The cell booster helped a lot.

Easy spot

Great camping spot and so easy to get to. Nice dirt road. Don’t pay attention to the 4WD warning sign. You can get to many spots right off the road without it. We went maybe 1/4 mile off the highway and found a wide open field. Camper vans and RVs and 2 WD would be able to camp this

Easy stop for beautiful site

Don’t be deterred by the sign, a 4WD car is not needed to get here.

Service for ATT and Verizon, but is was a single bar each. We couldn’t really work here, but you can send messages.

The site only has a natural fire ring, but it is free and super accessible.

Just dispersed camping here and lot of space.

If you do have 4WD, there is a road we hiked up that has nice views on the cliffs 360 degrees.
