OK But Not Our Favorite
We drove through this campground to check it out, but found it too open and exposed and too full of trucks with ATVs, so we decided to move on to Lower Onion Creek.
A few of the sites are walk up, meaning you park your car and set up camp further away from the loop, which was nice. The sites varied in size and degree of levelness.
There was also a group or horse area to the left.
The road from Hwy 128 was a doable dirt and washboard road.
Vault toilets, minimal cell reception.
$20/night, self pay, no reservations.

Amazing!
We were looking for a campsite away from the business along the river and were So excited to have found this gem. We drove through lower onion creek first (right on the river but other than that, very blah from what we saw, and some lady had her two dogs running around into other peoples sites off leash so that was an immediate No for us). thankfully they were full so we found upper creek instead. These sites were spacious, and the views were unbelievable. Lots of room between sites, we had site 3 which was ideal as it dropped down into some scrubby trees that provided much needed afternoon shade. There’s a horse trail right behind the campground that was perfect for walking our dog along, and the site had plenty of room for her to explore without bothering anyone else.
Great spot!
Spacious sites in a quiet area, a little less busy than right in Moab. We stayed at site 8 and had the perfect tree to hang my hammock in. The wind rocked me all night long it was amazing. The site is maybe a few hundred feet from where you park and just a tiny walk up from the site brings amazing views!
