Warner Lake Campground & Cabin

Cooler temperatures at elevation provide relief from Moab's desert heat at this Forest Service campground in the La Sal Mountains. Warner Lake Campground sits along a mountain loop road, with 20 sites offering picnic tables and permanent bear boxes among the aspen and pine trees. Recent road construction on weekdays has complicated access, making the drive up more challenging for campers targeting the first-come, first-served sites.

The campground serves as a base for exploring mountain trails that provide views down to the national parks below. Mule deer frequent the area, and sites are positioned relatively close together within the loop. Campers seeking more space often continue to dispersed camping options along the access road. The season runs from early June through mid-September when snow typically closes mountain access.

Peaceful and Cool

Makes for a much cooler place to camp rather than the Moab valley below. The road construction on weekdays made getting here a pain and since most of the sites are first-come first-serve, it would suck to drive up there and it be full. Very well maintained sites with all of the features you need, including permanent bear boxes. Plenty of trails nearby to see the La Sal Mountains and the national parks below.

Crowded

This is a scenic area and while I was driving through the loop campground I saw many mule deer. However, I chose not to stay here because the campsites were too close to each other. Instead I drove back down the main street that leads to this camp, and by about 1 or 2 miles I found a nice dispersed camp spot with a wide open view of the La Sals.
