Amazing place

It’s a dry camping spot. We didn’t see wild animals around. Has a Porta-potty in the campground. Nice views and not too many people in the campground. 25$ per night host came to welcome us and collect the payment.

Beautiful Views & Quiet Campground

We camped here for two nights in mid September - site #2. it was really quiet with beautiful views of Monument Valley.

The campsite was big and had a picnic table and shade covering. It also had a rock fire ring.

The owner Laura came by each night to collect the $25 fee. She was friendly and very knowledgeable about the area.

I would highly recommend this campground.

My wife and I camped at Sleeping Bear for 2 nights .

The owners are very nice people, the views are great. Instead of just driving through we had time to go explore the Valley of the Gods and the surrounding area. We were tent camping and were quite comfortable. I would definitely camp there again. The night sky is hard to top. Rod and Valerie

Great Experience

Only stayed for one night but the view was awesome and was literally no one else in the entire campsite (whilst other sites down the road were fully booked). Owners were very nice and offered great advice.

Beautiful view

We stayed one night $25, instead of $60 at others nearby. First come, first go. No water and a dixi as ‘restroom’. Beautiful quiet place. Money gets collected in the evening.

Memories for life, what a spot!

Having drove past the packed KOA campground in Monument Vally, we arrived at Sleeping Bear with huge smiles on our faces... couldn't believe what a beautiful location it was and only one other van there!! OMG, desert camping at its best :-) only sad we only had one night there on our Utah road trip. A lovely young lady came to collect the $25? around 8pm, had a nice chat, she told us about the camps history and the formations surrounding us. We went on a horseback ride with Joe Atene, the entrance to which is very close to Sleeping Bear (see on Google maps). Note there are no signs on the main road to the campsite, just follow Google.

Would highly recommend to anyone staying in the area, provided you don't need any facilities, just peace and quiet. The road was in decent condition, our RV was 8m long and no issues at all with parking. some large parking spots are available.

Incredible winter camping, very quite

We a great night staying at sleeping bear campground. First in first serve camping which we were the only people there January 5th. A little cold overnight so I wouldn’t recommend a tent this time of year.

Amazing!!

Arrived at 4:30 ish- just before the “golden hour” when the sunrays have a magic honey tone. The site doesn't have much for amenities BUT more than makes up for that with views. Camp host was really friendly, came by just after we got our tent up. Luckily it was a clear night and we got to view the milky way.

Loved the location - stayed an extra day

We arrived at 1 PM with no one else there and picked the best spot. At about 5 PM people began coming in to where the park was approximately 75% full by 9 PM. There was 3G, T-mobile cell phone service. The owner is pleasant and will come by after you have picked your spot to collect. Which spot includes a picnic table covered by slats and they fire ring. There are restrooms as well.

Fantastic site for a sunrise visit to Monument Valley

Went on a birthday road trip, with one of the main goals being getting to Monument Valley for sunrise photos. The site is super easy to find, has wonderful views, super clean pit toilets, and great for the price point. The very friendly owner came by several times to make sure we had everything we needed. I wish we'd stayed more than one night.

Great stay right by monument valley

It has porta potties, tables and bbq pits with fireplace. Nobody came to check on me or charge me but I did have noisy drunk neighbors but other then that it was not bad!

Had barely one bar of service for Verizon

I would stay here again no doubt!

BEWARE!!!!!

We discovered this campground last year and decided to give it a shot. We arrived after 3pm. A few minutes after, a totally drunk Navajo man came by (he could barely stand on his feet). He claimed to be the brother of the owner.  We paid him $20. Shortly after, a totally frantic woman came to our site and told us we weren't welcome there and that we need to leave. It was some kind of family dispute. She said that the guys don't have a license to run the campground and that we need to pack up and go immediately. She also said that there's been a murder on the property and that the man is under investigation. Apparently he gets drunk and comes by at night and harasses tourists for more money.  We ignored the woman but a few minutes later another, younger woman came by and said the police was on the way and that we need to leave as we are on their land and they don't want us here. They both were afraid, as he was waving the gun at them, threatening to kill them both. At least that is what she had said. We didn't want to risk it. Lost $20 and went to the nearby Valley of the Gods (only less that 30 minute drive). It was the best campground we have ever had! Secluded, totally alone and FREE!

The way these two women were treating us was rude and so unpleasant. This experience at the Sleeping Bear campground was so awful; we will never be back there again!

Most amazing spot near monument valley

Loved waking up to the gorgeous views. Definitely primitive, but loved the seclusion. Host was very friendly. Grill and picnic tables close by. Entire site to ourselves absolutely perfect.

Hidden gem, unbeatable views!

I received a tip about this place from a friend who camped here last year and it did not disappoint!

There is no website for the place, no email and I’m not truly sure that’s a real phone number, but there are signs for this place along highway 163. It’s really a first come, first serve place. The owner, Kirby, comes by at the end of the night to collect the $20 fee. If you mention firewood to him, he’ll most likely have his brother drop some off for you.

Located just a few miles north of Monument Valley, you’ll be surrounded by lesser known monuments in this campground, including Sleeping Bear, where the campground gets its name. This was great especially right now, given that Monument Valley is currently closed because of covid.

This campground is pretty primitive. There was a picnic table and fire ring at the site I stayed at. There is also an outhouse on the grounds, but that’s as far as it goes for amenities. You’ll need to pack out your trash and bring your own water. The closest place for supplies would be Goulding’s.

This was definitely the greatest view I’ve ever woken up to!!
