Sleeping Bear Campground

BEWARE!!!!!

We discovered this campground last year and decided to give it a shot. We arrived after 3pm. A few minutes after, a totally drunk Navajo man came by (he could barely stand on his feet). He claimed to be the brother of the owner.  We paid him $20. Shortly after, a totally frantic woman came to our site and told us we weren't welcome there and that we need to leave. It was some kind of family dispute. She said that the guys don't have a license to run the campground and that we need to pack up and go immediately. She also said that there's been a murder on the property and that the man is under investigation. Apparently he gets drunk and comes by at night and harasses tourists for more money.  We ignored the woman but a few minutes later another, younger woman came by and said the police was on the way and that we need to leave as we are on their land and they don't want us here. They both were afraid, as he was waving the gun at them, threatening to kill them both. At least that is what she had said. We didn't want to risk it. Lost $20 and went to the nearby Valley of the Gods (only less that 30 minute drive). It was the best campground we have ever had! Secluded, totally alone and FREE!

The way these two women were treating us was rude and so unpleasant. This experience at the Sleeping Bear campground was so awful; we will never be back there again!
