Kinda cool

Would have been a cool spot but we had dirt bikes riding around at 2am. 2wd accessible, bunch of spots to choose from.

Traumhaft!

Ich habe hier 2 Nächte verbracht. Ich bin alleine unterwegs und ich habe mich noch nie so sicher an einem Ort gefühlt wie hier. Und man hat hier super Internet! (iPhone 13 t-Mobile

Lives up to the name

Very sandy…extremely sandy. Like most OHV areas it can get crowded and noisy but it is free and the closest free site to St. George. I’m surprised folks got their RVs in there given the state of the entrance.

Sand hallow review

Sand hallow a off road era paradise. Well maintained camp ground we stayed at lake view. Cleanest bathrooms I have ever had in a camp ground. Staff was super friendly too! I enjoyed paddle boarding on the lake. We loved it so much we stayed 2 extra days, I can’t wait for our next adventure at sand hallow.

Side by side paradise

If you're in the area to see sand hollow via motorcycle or side-by-side this is a perfect base camp. For everyone else you might be quickly annoyed by the noise all day, and night. The first night we had people riding around until about 2 am.

The area is absolutely beautiful. Red Utah desert and very sandy. Your gear will be pink by the time you go home.

Lots of space to park and a fire pits scattered throughout the valley. I'd be careful with small ones and pets due to all the off road vehicles using this as a trailhead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for RV camping at Sand Hollow State Park?

RV camping at Sand Hollow State Park requires consideration of the extremely sandy terrain. The entrance road conditions can be challenging for larger RVs, so high clearance is recommended. While RVs can access the area, be prepared for deep sand that may require 4WD in some sections. The free OHV camping area has limited facilities, so RVs should be self-contained. For those seeking more amenities, the developed campgrounds within the state park offer better RV accommodations with hook-ups and maintained sites.

Can you camp on BLM land near Sand Hollow State Park?

Yes, free camping is available on BLM land near Sand Hollow State Park. The Sand Hollow OHV Camp offers free dispersed camping with good access to the park and surrounding areas. It's the closest free camping option to St. George. The terrain is very sandy, as expected in this desert environment. While the area can get crowded and noisy with OHV enthusiasts, there are typically plenty of spots to choose from for camping.

What flag requirements apply when visiting Sand Hollow State Park?

Sand Hollow State Park requires safety flags on off-highway vehicles (OHVs) when operating in the park and surrounding sand dune areas. These flags must be brightly colored (typically orange or yellow) and mounted on a whip pole that extends at least 8 feet from the ground. The flag requirement enhances visibility between vehicles in the dunes, especially when cresting hills. Be sure to have proper flags installed before arriving, as they're strictly enforced for safety reasons.

Are there OHV trails at Sand Hollow State Park and is there a trail map available?

Sand Hollow State Park is an off-road enthusiast's paradise with extensive OHV trails throughout the area. The park features numerous trails across red Utah desert terrain, making it perfect for motorcycles and side-by-sides. The OHV camping area provides excellent access to these trails, serving as an ideal base camp for riders. Trail maps are available at the park entrance station and visitor center. The area offers diverse riding experiences with trails suitable for different skill levels, from beginner paths to more challenging technical routes. Contact the park office directly for the most current trail maps and information.
