Quiet and Pretty

The coordinates get you here but there is nothing at the coordinates. You have to drive just a short distance further to find a spot. It is super quiet and very pretty. 4 bars Verizon.

Friendly staff, small spaces

We barely fit our tent into our site and had to back our truck up all the way to the tent in order to fit. The staff is super friendly, though. Restrooms with 2 showers, dish washing station, and laundry. Close to town. At 9 pm, a light went on above our tent. It was so bright on the white top of our tent that it was like the sun was directly above us. We had to dig out a tarp and cover the top of the tent. So, I might avoid site 36 when staying here.

Small sites

While the sites are small on the WC loop it is enough for our tent and truck. The Rangers are all over the "Be bear aware". So take it seriously. We made reservations just a few days ago and a majority of the sites are empty. Makes it almost as good as dispersed camping.

Quiet Spot

Found this quiet spot between Rangely and Dinosaur, CO. 98 is off of Hwy 64. Just a short distance up the hill. Small road to the left and immediately able to pull off. Room for maybe two tents, Overlander or Van. 4 bars of Verizon. Pack it in, pack it out.

Great view

We've been on the road for two weeks now and this is the first paid campground we've stayed in. $20/night or if you have an access pass (not an annual pass) $10/night. We got a site when we arrived at 9:45 am. There were no other sites available at the time. Then two people left and those sites filled immediately. So it was full by about 10:45 am. A lot of road noise but expect that to calm as it gets dark. Super windy today and tent is really being put to its paces. We didn't get on the river side but still amazing views. Pit toilets, picnic tables, fire pit and trash. Cash or card (fee).

Nice spot

We found a nice spot after turning down both BLM campgrounds. It was very windy during our visit with wind whipping down the canyon. Over all it was reasonably quiet. You are right off the road but we found that most motorcycles and UTV/ATV's were respectful and drove slow down the road. Cars (mostly small ones that should be driving off road) were driving super fast. They hit the wash dip at high rates of speed. We camped .9 miles past the first BLM pay campground and before the second BLM campground.

Nope

This is a gravel lot. Despite the prior review stating $7.50 for passes. This is not true. No discounts at all. So $15/night for an open gravel lot. Fire ring and pit toilets only. No thanks.

Good location

Good location for Capitol Reef. Need to arrive early to get a spot. Super crowded but we landed a spot away from everyone and no one can park near us. Two bars Verizon.

Great views

Great views. We were about 250 yards off the main road. Only one spot here. Maybe more further back. High clearance vehicles only. We hit out bumper in one spot with 11" of clearance on the truck. No trailers or RVs. No cell or trash. Pack it in, pack it out. We found the site mostly clean other than a piece of TP under a rock and a used paper towel in the fire pit. We picked them up for the careless other camper that was there. Technically you need a free permit but without going all the way to Escalante, not sure how you'd get one. If you go through Escalante on your way to this spot, you can get one at the visitor center.

First to Review
Just a lot

This is just a gravel circle for trailers and RVs. Not good for tents.

Crowded

This area is right off the highway and had 25 or more campers there. Full size rigs, trailers, vans and tents. No thank you. Keep going, you'll find something.

Awesome view

As with all prior reviewers, we turned right (sharp right) at the top of the hill. Multiple sites with two on the edge. No one here. We stopped at the visitor center and got a free permit. You're right on the border of GSE, and if you slip up and camp on GSE land without a permit, it's a hefty fine. It is easier to stop and get the free permit. Because of the bad weather, the Rangers recommended we go no further than the top of this hill, even with 4 wheel drive (which we have). It's called slick clay up here when it rains. The road up is passable without 4 wheel drive if the weather is good.

Updated note: there are probably 20 sites back here. Despite this, we had a group come camp right next to us and then a van pulled in very close as well. Everyone needs to remember boondocks g edicate….if there are open sites, spread out.

Great spot

This is a great spot. Very sandy but up the road we saw a class A parked in one of the spots. We drove to these coordinates but they are to the left which lead to a locked gate. To the right someone was already camped. We back tracked to 64L camp spot. We put it in 4wd but likely not necessary. We drove down the road to the Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park (about 7 miles) and we noted the sand was the same color as where we were camped. A bit of trash around from folks not following leave no trace. A lot of TP mostly. People don't understand to use dog poop bags for their TP. We cleaned up everything we could find.

Beautiful

We drove past the fork in the road. There was a group camping on the left and we went down about another tenth of a mile. Set up the tent and spent the night. Still pretty cool at night. Good cell service. Access to my email, FB and posted this review.
