Very Quiet

Well away from any traffic sounds. Beautiful views. Many sites to choose from.

Convenient to Capital Reef

No frills but nice sites. Only about 6 miles from Capital Reef.

Not Far From Capital Reef

Found this little site right after I stopped at the General Store in Torrey. Several sites mostly flat with fire rings. No one here but me.

Right on the Colorado

Fortunately I arrived in time to get a space, many others left disappointed. The only drawback is that the campsites are so close to the highway and it is very noisy.

Oasis in the Mountains

This was the third and final campsite for my Rimrocker run. Amazing to find such a place out in the middle of no where. Plenty of vault toilets spread around and some of the fanciest fire rings you have ever seen. Bonus for me, beautiful snowstorm overnight.

Beautiful and Secluded

A very late start on the Rimrocker out of Montrose. Obviously the higher I climbed the colder it got. Finally made it and there was snow both falling and on the picnic table and downed trees. I had the entire place to my self. The next morning I awoke to snow all around and was able to see what a gorgeous place this is.

Great Place

Much better than Cortez’s KOA. Very friendly staff, clean facilities and grounds. Only complaint is several (3) washers are out of order.

Customer Service Lacking

I guess I am 1 for 2 in KOA experiences. Very rude treatment.

Beautiful Lakeside Campsite

I stopped first down the road but didn’t really care for the sites. Thank goodness, I then found this gem. Very peaceful, quiet despite the other campers. I highly recommend this place.

Very Convenient

Right off I-30. Checking in was a breeze, the lady was friendly and helpful. Nice that it’s a smaller park and more quiet than in Alabama. Only issues was the lack of ice, and poor WiFi.

Huge Campground but Nothing Special

With 501 campsites this place is huge. Checked in and set up after dark. Did not realize until this morning how plain this site was. The most disappointing thing was the staff. Not just one, but all I came in contact with were unbelievably unfriendly. Almost like they hated their jobs. I’m certainly not used to a place this large and all the comings and going’s throughout the night definitely was disturbing.

Nice Big Site

Weather was far from good so I quickly decided this site would work. It was pretty level, had a nice fire pit. It was very foggy all day with off and on rain. My mistake was not paying attention to where the runoff was. This morning I had a small stream running through my camp. This site had plenty of room however.

Great View!

Happened upon this campsite not long after starting up the “105” fro the south. At only 2575’ it’s not high but the view is spectacular. Plenty of room for a couple of tents. Wouldn’t try with a RV though.

Very Close to the Blue Ridge Parkway

Nice find within a mile of the BRP.  A narrow trail means privacy, be careful heading down to avoid the rocks in the way.  The only downfall is the closeness to the highway, which can be noisy until later when the traffic slows down.

Right off the Blue Ridge Parkway

Tuesday, September 15, 2020.  I had originally planned on staying at Julian Price Campground but came upon this one first.  After looking around I decided to stay here for the night.  Plenty of spacious sites and I loved the fact that there were plenty of "first come, first served" sites.  There were a lot of campers here but there was plenty of room and I didn't feel crowded.  There were flush toilets but no showers.

Still Unknown

Had high hopes for this place.  Unfortunately, the gate was locked and posted that it was closed for the season.   I was able to drive around and check out the boat ramp and picnic areas.  They were nice.

Happened Upon This One

Monday, September 14th. Warm and muggy with rain here and there. Went to my planned campsite Lake Springs, which was closed for the season. My late start along with the closed campground meant I would be looking in the dark.  Luckily right up US 221, I found the Army Corp of Engineers Modoc Campground.  It was way after dark as I drove around looking for a site marked open.  I found one and set up camp.  The next morning I broke camp and drove around and checked things out in the daylight.  It's a very nice campground!

Perfectly Secluded

Right off the Blue Ridge Parkway this was a perfect site for the night.  A small creek nearby provided a peaceful backdrop.  No one around and only saw one other vehicle driving by.

Perfectly Secluded

Working my way south from Bismark, North Dakota I was on the hunt for the Hugh Glass Monument.  I had recently watched the movie the Revenant and wanted to see the area.  It was raining and the roads were slippery and empty.  I only saw one other person.  After finding the monument, I headed on to the empty campground.  I had my choice of sites and chose one that was wind shielded by some evergreens.  Very peaceful!  You do have to be careful driving in though, lots of cows sharing the roads.

Awesome!

Several miles down a rough dirt road you'll find a campground that is as close to perfect as you could find.  With only nine sites and in a remote area you'll be instore for a peaceful rest.  The only other folks I saw were riding in their side-by-side, they waved as they passed through.  Located on the top of the ridge is an American flag that was put there by a group of disabled vets!
