Canyon Rd Dispersed

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Target shooting on the surrounding trust lands draws visitors to this free dispersed site off Consumers Road near Helper, Utah, though the area's most common use is as an overnight stop for travelers moving between Salt Lake City and destinations like Arches or Canyonlands. The site sits on State School and Institutional Trust Lands, which means no fees and no reservations. Campers passing through the camping near Helper corridor will find this a functional layover with drive-in access and enough space to accommodate larger rigs, including at least one confirmed 30-foot RV.

Road noise is a real factor here. Trucks pass on the adjacent road every five to ten minutes, and the highway is audible in the background, though multiple reviewers note it did not significantly disrupt sleep. Cell coverage varies by position: T-Mobile and Verizon both work at the upper part of the site, but the lower area loses signal. A 24-hour truck stop sits roughly a mile away, which serves as the practical bathroom and resupply option since the site has no facilities whatsoever.

Trash is a persistent issue. Spent shell casings, broken glass, and general litter from target shooters accumulate in the area, and at least one recent visitor reported finding a dead animal on site. "Sadly they do not clean up any of their trash," notes Corda B. Nearby alternatives like BLM Dispersed near Consumers Wash (Price FO) and Bull Mesa Pullout may suit campers who want quieter or cleaner conditions. Bring your own waste bags and a headlamp; arriving before dark makes navigating the gravel road considerably easier.

Many campers appreciated the large, private dispersed camping area with easy access and proximity to amenities like 24-hour gas stations. However, several guests reported problems with trash left by target shooters, and some road noise is expected but generally manageable for overnight stops.

Absolutely fine

Absolutely fine spot. Loose gravel but we managed finde in our 30" RV. Not much here but a fine place with a fine view. A road right next to the spot with medium traffic and trucks every 5-10min but worked fine.

Bailed on this spot

There was a bunch of broken glass, trash, and a dead cow here. I found a better spot SE of Price.

Great location for an overnight or a day or two

It was great for a quick stop close to two Maverick truck stops. Restaurants and tourist attractions. Industrial trucks up and down the main road but not very bothers. Able to let the dogs from free.

Sitewe grabbed the first sight off of consumer road. since people were shooting in the lower site. popular for shooting good back drops.

Convenient Rest Stop

Convenient overnight spot — Close to town and a gas station, making it a great choice for a quick stop. You can hear some road noise, but it's not too disruptive. Easy in-and-out access. Full cell reception at the top of the hill; none at the lower area. Perfect for a one-night stay.

Good spot to crash for the night!

We rented a van in SLC and needed a quick spot to spend the night on the way to Arches/canyon lands. This was easy to find at dusk with a clear road. LOTS of trash around. You could hear the highway a little bit but the noise wasn’t too bad. We only saw one other person who drove in and then left. There is a nice big gas station/truck stop about a mile away open 24 hours so we went there to use the bathroom and get gas. Not sure why this post calls it Canyon Road. It’s off of Consumers Road then Dump road. We did have service with T-Mobile and Verizon.

Great overnight stop

This is trust land so you will see where a lot of people come back here to target practice. Sadly they do not clean up any of their trash. The area is nice, large and very private.
