About Slate River Rec Site

The BLM manages a 600 acre tract of land near Crested Butte, CO in the Slate River Valley. Currently Oh Be Joyful campground has 47 campsites and offers camping for small trailers (10 sites) and tents (31 sites). Six additional walk-in tent campsites are located at River Flats. This campground is nestled in a valley below mountain peaks and Slate River runs right past the campground. Many people come Oh Be Joyful to view waterfalls on Oh Be Joyful Creek which is a short hike west of the campground.

Currently Oh Be Joyful is in a development process, as a new plan calls for 31 total campsites between Oh Be Joyful and River Flats. There will be 18 tent sites and 12 trailer sites, along with a group campsite that could accommodate up to 30 people and an overflow tent camping area for busy weekends. Directions
From the town of Crested Butte, drive north on Gothic Road. (County road 317) towards Mount Crested Butte. Cross the Slate River and turn left on Slate River Road (County Road 374). Follow this up the valley. The access road is on the left.
