Reservations open up six months in advance through the DNR, and sites fill quickly, so planning ahead is essential for Clear Lake State Park Campground near Atlanta, Michigan. The campground runs year-round, with nightly rates from $32 to $120, electric hookups available, and a dump station on site. RVs up to 50 feet are accommodated, and the layout splits into an upper and lower area, with the upper section offering more space per site and better suited to larger rigs.
The lake is the main draw. Spring-fed and clear enough to see bottom at 30 feet, it supports swimming, paddling, and fishing, with a sandy beach and boat rentals available. Sites in the lower campground sit closer to the water, and reviewers consistently flag site 126 as having open sightlines toward the lake. The campground runs busy in summer, with a noticeable mix of families and group campers, though the sites are large enough that the density rarely feels cramped. Oak and white pine provide shade throughout.
Winter visits are possible but come with trade-offs. Water spigots are shut off seasonally, and the shower house closes, though vault toilets remain accessible. As Ron G. puts it, it's "just a relaxing place by the lake if you dress right." Nearby alternatives include Jackson Lake State Forest Campground and Canada Creek Ranch for campers who want to explore the broader area. Anglers, paddlers, and anyone who wants direct lake access will find Clear Lake worth the advance planning.
