Lady Bird Johnson RV Park

Lady Bird Johnson RV Park operates as a municipal campground within a larger city park complex, offering full hookups for RVs up to 50 feet alongside primitive tent camping options. The campground charges $52-$59 per night and accepts reservations year-round through the city's booking system.

The layout presents a unique configuration that catches many first-time visitors off guard. Sites line both sides of paved roads in a parallel parking arrangement, with white painted lines marking boundaries rather than traditional separated pads. MickandKarla W. found their pull-through "site 9 is only a pull through if site 8 is not occupied." Many sites require leveling blocks due to uneven ground, and the close proximity means RVs often park rear-to-rear with minimal space between units.

Aircraft activity from the adjacent county airport provides constant background noise as small planes, private jets, and helicopters take off throughout the day. The campground includes a large fenced dog park, playground facilities, and nature trails winding through the forested sections. Cable TV comes standard with hookups, and WiFi reaches most areas. Utility connections typically require 15-20 foot hoses for adequate reach to hookup points positioned toward the back of sites.

Sites near the dog park and airport offer more space and better views, while the front loops pack campers tighter together. "Bathrooms not very clean, especially moldy shower grout," notes andra B., though facilities include heated restrooms for cooler weather. The campground sits three miles from downtown Fredericksburg's Main Street district and provides convenient access to Hill Country wineries along Highway 290. Campers seeking a quieter alternative might consider Oakwood RV Resort northeast of town.

Guests commonly noted helpful staff, excellent dog facilities, and convenient location near Fredericksburg attractions. However, cramped site spacing and airport noise were frequent concerns, though full hookups and amenities provide good value for the area.

Clean and quiet

Pulled in right before closing. They were super nice and accommodating. Restrooms and showers were clean and was nice and quiet.

Pleasant Experience

Our RV GPS took us right to the park where you check in at their headquarters building. Check in was quick and we proceeded to pull through site 9 with FHUs. Site 9 is only a pull though if site 8 is not occupied. The sites in this area are set up on both sides of the road with you parking in a line, parallel style. There are white lines painted on the road to designate where the sites begin and end. Once unhitched, we were able to park our F450 adjacent to our 5th wheel. The park has cable TV with lots of channels. We got 4 bars on Verizon. The utilities are towards the back of the site, and we needed 15’ for sewer, 20’ for water, and 20’ for electric. The water pressure was good at about 50 psi. We had a clear shot to the north sky for Starlink. A south sky satellite shot may be iffy due to the mature trees in that direction. The WiFi was okay for a CG this size. Site 9 is near the playground and one of the two shower/restroom facilities. The sites in this campground (CG) are for the most part close together, especially in the front area near the entrance. There’s a large fenced dog park along with plenty of areas to walk your dog. With the county airport adjacent to the CG, we enjoyed watching the wide variety of small aircraft. We enjoyed playing a round of golf at the course adjacent to the CG and touring the local wineries.

Location but…

Fantastic location for Hill Country! Primarily big rigs and folks wanting full hookups, not many folks hanging outside-either in their vehicle or away exploring. Lots of grass, not much shade/plants and zero wildflowers despite height of season. Bathrooms not very clean, especially moldy shower grout. Many county workers buzzing around early morning but all prepping for eclipse, not cleaning.

Clean and Quiet

This site seems to be ran by the city. It's very well kept, clean, quiet and spacious.

I read mixed reviews about spacing but found it was no issue being low season.

We took someone else's recommendation on here and reserved a spot by the dog park. We had spot 84. Those are all pull through spots and face the dog park and airport.

Personally, we loved watching all the dogs play and the planes coming and going. It was far enough away to watch without being annoyingly loud.

We were minutes from Das Peach House, Dietz Distellry, downtown, and HEB.

Close to the fairgrounds

If you are looking for an RV park that is close to the fairgrounds for an event or close to the golf course this is a great location. It is clean with some shade trees available. Like most RV parks it is crammed in and the spots are very close together. It is within the Ladybird Johnson city park which is a plus for activities and a minus because it is very busy. This park is also directly next to the the county airport where small aircraft, private jets as well as helicopters are consistently flying in and out adding to the noise level. If you need to be close to the fair ground for an event this is perfect but if you don’t there are much better, quieter and less crowded RV park options in the area.

Sardines!

The campground is well maintained and has three loops. I suppose it’s the oldest loop but it’s also the tightest campground I’ve been to in a while.

Each site is split in half so you literally back up to your neighbors and if that’s not bad enough you’re a stones throw from your neighbors side-to-side.

Best bet is to book the sites close to the dog park and the airstrip.

And that brings me to my last point. It’s close to a general aviation airstrip. Not a big deal and not a lot of flights at night.

The airport diner has a great burger though.

Very Nice Campground

One of the nicest campgrounds you will ever find. Unfortunately it was ruined by a huge bike rally. Loud motorcycles coming and going constantly.

Nice Municipal Park in Fredericksburg

Ladybird Johnson Park is one of the more interesting layouts of a campground that we've ever come across. When booking online, you'll notice the different "tiers" of sites with different loops for site selection. If this feels confusing, you're not alone. But the confusion continues once you enter thr grounds and are navigating to your site. The driveway is a series of loop sites, which is not unusual for a campground, but the lack of direction and signage makes for a bit of a wonky entrance. However, once you've got your location ironed out, the grounds themselves are quite pleasant. It's about 3 miles from downtown Fredericksburg and lots of wineries along the nearby 290 corridor of Hill Country, plus close proximity to LBJ Ranch and Luckenbach -- all worth a visit!

All the sites are quite different, so you'll want to do a little research before selecting a site that might suit your rig best. Some sites are rear-to-rear with other trailers placing them very close to one another while other sites are side-by-side with more space. Also, many of the sites did not look level at all and required a fair amount of blocks to lift one side of many of the RVs we saw. The RV sites offer 50/30 amps, water, sewer and even cable and wifi. There are garbage cans for trash all throughout the grounds. There are also primitive tent sites that are really not much more than a grassy yard with some picnic benches and access to small restrooms.

The park itself is quite large with lots of green space and trees. The price is a little high, but for the area, seems pretty on-par for FHU.

Lady bird Johnson municipal park, Texas November 2020

We have family in the fredicksburg Texas area and the hotels in town are VERY expensive. We had seen this park before as it is next to the airport and golf course, so we decided to try to get a reservation for thanksgiving weekend. I booked through reservation.gov indicating I wanted a tent spot. I thought the cost was high, but chalked it up to being Fredicksburg. Once we got to the park, the park agent told me we had gotten a RV spot and there was no place to stake a tent, but they had a field used for tent camping which was only $10.00 per night! She was so nice in changing our site. The field for “primitive” camping is one you drive into and pitch a tent which worked great for us. There is a beautiful nature trail by the park. The bathrooms are fine, heated which was nice as it was chilly for Texas. Wifi is included I your stay. We will definitely use this park again.

Convenient and pleasant

Sites are close together, gravel, and not all are level. There are also extreme amounts of painful grass burrs in the lower camp area. But there’s also a beautiful dog park, butterfly garden, rustling trees, wide roads for waking, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Very convenient short drive to downtown Fredericksburg and many wineries. It’s also fun to watch the airplanes at the nearby airport. Family and dog friendly. We would go back.

Very small gravel sites but good amenities

This campground packs campsites on top of one another. It does have a decent playground area, and an extremely large dog park. It also has some short nature trails to hike. In order to have a fire you must bring your own fire ring. I would not go back there to camp unless there for a special event.

Cheapest option we found for Fredericksburg

We wanted to visit Fredericksburg and decided to stay at Lady Bird Johnson to do so. The park was plenty nice but nothing overly special. The sites were level and the facilities were fine. It’s a pretty convenient location for getting downtown to check out the town. The staff was helpful too. We were lucky enough to be here while all of the flowers were blooming, and it was awesome! We enjoyed our stay in the area and if we are back, we would be happy to stay at this park again.
