Great Shade - Lots of Road Noise

Pulled into our site a little before dinner time. All sites seem to be pull through, so that’s nice but if you get an even number site in the pecan loop be aware of the proximity to a bust county road with a lot of road noise.

The pecan loop has the most shade, important in Texas in the summer.

Electrical box is old, rusting and the breakers are loose with wires visible. Use your surge protector here - well, always use a surge protector but especially here.

Water pressure is low so be prettier that too.

Sardines!

The campground is well maintained and has three loops. I suppose it’s the oldest loop but it’s also the tightest campground I’ve been to in a while.

Each site is split in half so you literally back up to your neighbors and if that’s not bad enough you’re a stones throw from your neighbors side-to-side.

Best bet is to book the sites close to the dog park and the airstrip.

And that brings me to my last point. It’s close to a general aviation airstrip. Not a big deal and not a lot of flights at night.

The airport diner has a great burger though.

Nice Sites - If you can snag the full hookups

Really well maintained famcamp. Even the full timers there kept their sites neat and tidy unlike some we’ve been to.

The water and electric sites had no shade whatsoever. And the full hookups are first come first serve. So beware of you need or want to visit in the summer. I mean hades.

Oh. No exchange or commissary facilities are close and the base exchange is closed for renovations.

One of our favorites!

Really enjoy this COE campground. Amenities aren’t the best but the views can be amazing.

Down side. Sites are very close to one another.

Up side. With an access pass we paid $13 for the night.

Can’t beat it.

Great view. Poor neighbor.

We decided to stay here - mostly because state parks are closed - and thought military campgrounds have an advantage over public parks.

Not this one. Most of the permanent residents had trash sprawled over their site, let their dogs run lose and didn’t curb them at all. So much so that there were was dog shit next to our power podium. What a welcome.

Needless to say I don’t think we’ll be coming back unless absolutely necessary. Oh wait. It’s not.

Oh. Wonderful views of the lake and way close to the beach on base.
