We enjoyed the palmetto palms and boggy area. We couldn’t believe we were in Texas. There is a nice swimming area for children and a few good fishing spots. The best thing was that we had a Bucees about 2 miles away. We bought great BBQ sandwiches and the best fudge available here in Texas.
We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the RV spots in this state park. So much room!
- Large sites.
- Lots of easy trails.
- Plenty of recreational opportunities.
- If you miss the turn off to the 2nd loop of campsites, there is no place to turn around for miles.
- The entrance road to campsite loop is really only 1.5 lanes wide, except at the turnoff. There is no shoulder.
This Texas State Park is located in Goliad Texas. This is in the south central area of the state between Victoria and Austin on Highway 183. The park has some great historical sites including a 16th century Spanish mission. The campground is situated along the San Antonio River. You can kayak along the 6 mile long kayak paddle trail or try your luck at fishing. The campground is well maintained and offers a nice range of sites from tent to RVs and small cabins. The sites are located along the river with no privacy. They have some walk in tent sites as well. The town of Goliad is a hidden gem with a rich history and some cool antique shops and cafes. We plan to stop again here on our next trip to the coast.
Absolutely recommend this park! It’s a very well kept, peaceful getaway from reality. I have been camping here for years. My favorite no doubt. There are so many trails to walk! Playgrounds for the children, and the river is a short walk from you’re camp.
We are in site 17. A little uneven but pull through and lots of shade around the fire pit. Mission is beautiful. For being a small park they have several activities.
I would recommend going into town and checking out all of the shops. There are a lot of eclectic items for sale.
Two night stay with the family at this hidden gem. Small State Park with good amenities and unusual and rare vegetation. Good hiking trails. Kids loved fishing, biking and swimming in the small lake.
