The area featured trees on the opposite side and was a larger Bloxstrap premium location. It was really easy to pull in, park, and set up. The toilets were handy, and the neighborhood is rather calm.

    Nice size spaces

I passed off about 75 feet between sites. Most have views of the lake. At the moment the water level is very low and facilities near this campground are high and dry.

Turkey Sink Camping Area — Guadalupe River State Park

    Fantastic campground and facilities

Very nice multi use campsites with tent pads and picnic tables and large flat parking pads. Sites were spaced apart and felt very private. The bathrooms are very spacious and clean. There were nice separate individual showers with hot water and nice dressing area. Several trails nearby and a short walk to the Guadalupe River where there was plenty of additional parking and picnic tables.

    Needs better customer service

We had reservations for Alamo Fiesta and were running late. The directions from the internet didn’t get us to the right place. We called the office at 5:00 pm and got voicemail. No one called back. Finally found them with help from locals. No one in the office. Everything was dark. Our late check in info was not in their box. Luckily I had a pre assigned site number. Found a map in the trash by the door. We found the site and set up ok. But No pass code for bathrooms or internet! We were able to use laundry without a code. They were clean and everything there worked. Can’t comment on bathroom because we couldn’t get in! Guys playing pool in the rec room said that the bathroom were closed!

    Great place for Vanner!

I went with a extremely rowdy group of individuals and it appeared that the attendants of camp Hueco are very patient people. They were very good at explaining what the expectations were for camping on the property and the expectations were for the others in the immediate area. Also please don't bring your mini bike!

    Cranes Mill Park

    Another fine COE campground

Disclaimer: I am biased towards COE campgrounds. Cheap, ample grass, trees, water, blue sky and stars at night. Usually a paved pad, reliable utilities, picnic table, fire ring, grill, friendly volunteers. Did I mention cheap? With a National Park Pass you get 50% off so nightly rate is usually $11-15 range. How can you go wrong. Almost always good site spacing, 20-30 feet. Almost always well maintained. Waaayy closer to camping than commercial RV parks.

Cranes Mill is 4 of 5 on COE scale, paved pads, pretty level. Good spacing, generally 25-30 feet. Hooded picnic table with usual fire ring, grill. Excellent bath houses. Canyon Lake was low when I was there (Nov,'22) but still fishing and boating activity. Small towns/shops <5miles, major shopping 15 miles. I'm going back in Feb'22 for another stay.

Good cell coverage - Verizon, 3bars LTE, 10+mb down, ATT 3bars LTE 10+mb down. I work remote so this is important. No issues in my ten day stay.

Cedar Sage Camping Area — Guadalupe River State Park

    Critters

    Guadalupe River SP

Arrived Tuesday in December, very empty. Sorta like the ole Texas ghost town but with staff. The Cedar Sage sites are for 20’ or less and have two parking spaces, a tent pad, hook thing and picnic table. Lots of space/foliage between sites, so you have some privacy and I’m sure when it’s busy it helps mute the noise.

The showerhouse is nice, separate shower rooms that need more hooks to dangle your stuff from. Very clean and well maintained.

I was informed by a host couple that the river was very low to non-existent over the last summer and the showerhouse was closed. There was a burn ban still in effect. When I walked down to the river it was still not up to its usual level.

We did get to experience some wildlife in the campground and on the trail. There were armadillo wandering the campground in the early evening looking for food . Then near the river early morning we saw first one group of deer near the overlook and then a large herd of close to 15 when we approached the river near the Discovery Center. There are two trailheads in the campground area, one was closed the evening we arrived. Unfortunately all the trails were closed around 0900 the next morning due to mud/slippery conditions and possible further rain fall. When we returned in the late afternoon the trails and parking areas had been reopened. When the river is “working” there are kayak/tube opportunities, unfortunately no way of knowing ahead when you book what your going to get so plan accordingly and bring lots of water just in case. Even in winter this park is worth a visit, I imagine it’s busy on the weekends .

    Skyline Ranch RV Park

    Large RV park

Large RV park with lots of spaces and trees. Very pretty park with lots of deer.

Two negatives are the roads are gravel that is pressed into the dirt so the roads are muddy when raining. The other issue is if you leave the park and come but at night or if you arrive at night the driveway is not lit. You can see the sign but you cannot see the road till you turn enough for you lights to hit the road.

    It's Big

We set up in section R, not easy to negotiate with the map, not well marked. I know there's a lake here somewhere, but it's not close to my section. I had to take my bike to get close enough to see the lake. Lots of scrub pine and huge deer herd wander about.

    Son’s Guadalupe

Great time on the Guadalupe River!

My family and I all visited Son’s Guadalupe in August for a quick getaway. I grew up camping, tubing and swimming in the Guadalupe growing up so I wanted to share that experience with my three sons but being from the area I also know how river rd can be rowdy at times in the summer. I was happy to find out Son’s recently opened up a place out there as we had visited a couple of their other locations and they had been very family friendly. We rented a cabana for the day as well as an air-conditioned glamping tent to stay overnight. We had such a great time! The cabanas sit right on the bank of the river and have everything you need including: seating, picnic table, BBQ pit electricity and water. The river is a bit shallow at their location for swimming (much of the Guadalupe is) but it the perfect depth to get in relax and cool off. This section of the Guadalupe River is very clear and flows great for tubing. We rented some tubes and they took us up river a couple of miles to float back down to our cabana which was very convenient. The scenery on the tubing trip is absolutely gorgeous, huge cliffs and cypress trees! After a fun day it was nice to relax in a comfortable tent with AC! The mattresses were foam and very comfortable. You do have to bring your own pillows, sheets and blankets though. For bathrooms, they have 5 individual bathrooms up top with showers. Overall we had a great time and I’d recommend the place. It can get a bit crowded on weekends so go during the week if you’re not wanting to be around crowds. Also, they rent everything a-la-carte, so if you plan to stay the night you need to tent a cabana or covered picnic table during the day. There website does a good job explaining everything but it’s a bit different if you haven’t been before so be sure to read through your reservation before heading out.

    Blazing Star Luxury RV Resort

    Good spot!

Nice place with tons of amenities. Good Wi-Fi and cell service (Verizon). The office ladies are really nice! The only thing that took caught us off guard were the military planes flying overhead, but it only lasted for an hour but it was loud.

The spot had trees one side and was a larger premium site. Was very easy to pull in and get parked and set up. The bathrooms were close and the community is pretty quiet.
