Best RV Parks & Resorts near Von Ormy, TX

Von Ormy features several RV parks within a short driving distance, including Alamo River RV Ranch Resort & Campground with full hookups and big rig accommodations. A Country Breeze RV Park in nearby Somerset provides 47 spacious sites with electric, sewer, and water connections that can accommodate large motorhomes on level ground. "Very nice campground with all amenities. The spots are nice. Everyone is very friendly. Everything is within a 10 min drive," noted one visitor about their experience at an area RV park. Travelers World RV Resort in San Antonio, approximately 8 miles northeast of Von Ormy, offers year-round availability with concrete pads, 50-amp service, and generous spacing for larger rigs.

Most parks in the region maintain good cell service coverage with both AT&T and Verizon signals reported as reliable. Seasonal considerations include summer heat that can strain air conditioning units, making 50-amp service particularly valuable during peak months. Public transportation access varies by location - Travelers World has a convenient bus stop across the street providing direct routes to downtown San Antonio attractions. While some parks enforce quiet hours and pet restrictions, others maintain more relaxed policies. Sanitary dump stations are available at nearly all established parks, though water pressure can be exceptionally high at some locations, requiring pressure regulators which can sometimes be purchased at park offices.

    Mission City RV Park

    Cream of the Crop

You don't get a much nicer RV park than this in a major city. It hits all of the marks: mass transit at your doorstep; pool, laundry, showers and a gift shop at the entrance; easy pull-through, level sites; picnic tables at each site; quaint southwestern style! This is a nice park for the overnight or the long stay, and it has easy access to major highways.

Hill Country RV Resort & Cottage Rentals

Nice Park with little room between sites

The park it’s self is nice and clean.  Staff for the most part is friendly and nice.  The pool is a hopping place over summer break and on the weekends when it’s warm.  RV sites are tight in the daily/weekly sites and parking your 40+ foot rig and tow vehicle in the spot are probably not happening.  They do have over flow parking and depending on your site it could be a good walk.

They are pet friendly and have several dog parks and potty areas through out the park.  The laundry room is like no other I’ve ever been too.  All machines operate via debit/credit cards, no more quarters!!

Over all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this park for monthly stays or in one of their top tier sites for daily/weekly stays.

    Alsatian RV Resort

    Exceptional Customer Service

This campground(CG)/RV resort has exceptional customer service. We were on a waitlist to add another day to our reservation. They proactively called us back about a month later to let us know they could accommodate another night’s stay. We followed the website instructions to come in so we could take a right turn into the RV Resort, which is a 1/4 mile from the golf course entrance. A very short rig could take a left turn. The gate was down so we called the number listed on the gate and we were let in for a very pleasant check-in. We were assigned pull-through site 406 with FHUs. There’s a slope off the front of the site, so I needed to center the rig on the level part of the cement pad. By doing this I needed 20’ of sewer hose to get from my rear black tank to the sewer. The CG was quiet with no kids running around as this is a 55+ CG. The guest internet was below average for a park this size, but we have Starlink. We got 3 bars on Verizon. Most of the campers here were seasonal with license plates from CO, MN, and WI. Several of the campers we talked to didn’t golf and came here to get away from cold weather. We did not see any overnighters during our four-day stay but this CG is fairly far from the San Antonio area interstates. CG was well-kept with no junky sites. They have a laundry room, but a couple of machines were not working. The sites were decently spaced and very long. Many reviewers called the sites spacious. The sites were not as far apart or as large when compared to many of the State Parks or Corps of Engineers CGs we’ve stayed. Get pizza from Luigi's Italian Restaurant in nearby Castroville as it’s in the top 5 pizzas we’ve had as we traveled through all lower 48 states. We enjoyed our stay, including playing their challenging golf course, and would definitely return.

    Fort Sam Houston Army RV

    Good trip!

All the sites are pull-through with full hookups(30 and 50 amp), and spacious enough for even the largest rigs. The grass was freshly mowed, and the park was clean. Staff were super friendly. There's a decent dog run at the back, propane available for purchase on-site, and two wash houses with washers and dryers. A large playground keeps the little ones entertained. Despite many full-timers, there were still plenty of open spots. It was very quiet—aside from the occasional train, which isn’t noticeable with the A/C running. Would be a 5-star stay if there were just a bit more shade [geometry dash 3d](https://geometrydash3d.com).

    Summit Vacation Resort

    Texas Camping at its finest

We loved the quiet and peace of this RV Resort nestled in Texas Hill Country.

The Park: they have a large pool area with cafe and snacks. The property is large and spaces are spread out through out the park. The big draw is the Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake, and the woods and hills.

They have hot shoes, bath houses, laundry.

The sites: Gravel and mostly level, very few sites were unlevel. You’re surrounded by hills so it is nice and quiet. They are full hook up sites. Each site had a fire ring and picnic table. Small deer herds would move through the park each evening. Many of the campers feed them corn and they know the sounds and come running out of the hills.

The campground is near grocery and hardware stores. Within an hour are several bigger towns with more stores.

Cellular: T-Mobile was decent but not great. They do have Campground WiFi that worked faster.

Canyon Lake Military - Randolph AFB

We love it here. Not for everyone.

We started with day passes, then graduated to renting out the loft cabins, then tried tent camping, and eventually and recently parked our travel trailer in the reservable RV spaces. All in the same vicinity. Made great memories at each stay.

Pro’s: Best rate in town for military (active, retired, $ disabled). Water is beautiful. Fishing can be fantastic. Lots of water activities available for rent or bring your own. Pet friendly, Great for families, most people are very respectful and wonderful to talk to. Good food and stores nearby. Lots of wildlife. Quiet. Close to town and short drive from San Antonio.

Cons: Hard to get ahold of staff to make reservations. Market is extremely expensive and staff isn’t very friendly. Lost and lots of fire ants.

We recommend it to all of our friends and family and bring them often. We love staying in the loft cabins. Some are pet friendly. We have stayed in the mobile homes on the other side of the lake once but that was not a great experience as our things were stolen off our table and covered patio (on Veterans Day) and they were only left unattended for 15 min or less. The mobile home wasn’t very nice but functional at least.

Guide to Von Ormy

Von Ormy sits approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown San Antonio at an elevation of around 600 feet. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly reaching 95°F from June through September, making water access and electric hookups crucial for comfortable camping. Winter nights can drop to the mid-30s, with daytime highs typically reaching the 60s from December through February.

What to do

Fishing along the Medina River: Alamo River RV Ranch Resort offers access to flowing water where campers can enjoy catch-and-release fishing. "The stream is beautiful," notes a camper at Alamo River RV Ranch Resort & Campground.

Trail exploration: Several campgrounds feature walking paths suitable for all skill levels. "We loved walking the trails and seeing deer and other wildlife," reports a visitor to Alamo River RV Ranch Resort.

Urban adventures: The proximity to San Antonio opens up cultural opportunities. "Located about 5 miles from The Alamo and Riverwalk. Both are a must see. We spent 3 days here and this park did not disappoint," explains a camper at Travelers World RV Resort.

Cycling opportunities: Paved paths near some parks allow for easy bike rides. "There is the Salado Creek Greenway with a trailhead just a mile away on Belgium Lane," notes a visitor to Mission City RV Park.

What campers like

Convenient location: Being close to Von Ormy provides easy access to urban attractions while maintaining a countryside feel. "Central to San Antonio" with a "10 minute drive to most of the best of San Antonio — the Pearl, The Alamo, Riverwalk and Brackenridge Park," notes a camper at Mission City RV Park.

Helpful staff: Many parks offer exceptional service. "Wendy was so helpful and accommodating. She didn't rush us or seem bothered even though we came just after closing," shares a visitor to Alamo River RV Ranch Resort.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and laundry facilities rank high on camper satisfaction. "The showers were in great shape and staff were incredibly friendly," reports a visitor to Fort Sam Houston Army RV, noting it's "very close to downtown with all the amenities and services."

Wildlife viewing: Many parks offer opportunities to see native Texas wildlife. "It is a beautiful tucked away area. Nice trails, great tree cover and full of nature and flowing water," according to a visitor at Alamo River RV Ranch Resort.

What you should know

Security considerations: Some parks have implemented protective measures. "The park is gated and beautifully maintained," notes a visitor to Mission City RV Park, though another mentions "this park is in a bad part of town" and recommends securing bicycles properly.

High water pressure: Multiple campgrounds report exceptionally strong water flow. "High water pressure; you'll need a pressure regulator. They sell them at the office!" advises a reviewer at Travelers World RV Resort.

Weather impacts: Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F, making shade and functioning air conditioning essential. "No shade trees unless you're on the tree line of the woods," reports a visitor to Alsatian RV Resort.

Transportation options: Public transit access varies significantly between locations. "Bus stop across the street will take you downtown," notes a Travelers World RV Resort camper, offering car-free exploration opportunities.

Tips for camping with families

Playground amenities: Several parks offer dedicated play areas. "Large playground for the little ones to play," notes a visitor to Fort Sam Houston Army RV.

Pool options: Swimming facilities provide relief from summer heat. "Heated pool" is highlighted by a reviewer at Mission City RV Park, while another mentions "a huge pool, playgrounds, dog runs, restrooms, laundry, trails, boat launch, community center, games, basketball, pickle ball, mini golf, and so much more" at Thousand Trails Medina Lake.

Entertainment amenities: Some parks provide additional recreation options. "Movies to borrow and books to read," mentions a Travelers World RV Resort camper, adding the park is "very quiet, clean with fun activities."

Wildlife viewing: Family-friendly nature encounters are available at several parks. "Deer walk around the park all day and night," reports a visitor to Thousand Trails Medina Lake, while another notes they "will literally eat feed out of your hands."

Tips from RVers

Level sites: Most Von Ormy area RV campgrounds provide relatively flat parking areas. "The sites are spacious, and well maintained," reports a Travelers World RV Resort visitor, while another notes "the spots are level."

Site selection strategy: Arrive early for prime locations at parks with first-come policies. "Get there early. First-come-first-served policy," advises a visitor to Thousand Trails Medina Lake.

Big rig accommodation: Most parks can handle large motorhomes. "All the sites are pull through, have full hook ups (30 and 50) and are big enough to park the largest of rigs," notes a camper at Fort Sam Houston Army RV.

Power requirements: "For being in a big city, this is a great park. It is quiet within the park. The industry around the park is noisy," shares a Mission City RV Park visitor, highlighting how location factors into overall experience.
