Great spot for extended stay and to enjoy the lake!

Hickory Creek Park is one of our favorite campgrounds that we visited in 2021 so far(it's tough to beat too). The location of this campground feels secluded from the city but close to the highway so you can be in the city within a few minutes drive. The campsites are spread out and have great water…

Rock climbing and kayaking

LMWSP has tons of activities for the family. You can spend the day exploring and climbing the rock formations, bring climbing gear if you plan to get to the top. You can also spend your day on the water, swimming on the beach, fishing from a pier or exploring the shoreline by kayak. Primitive,…

Neat and Clean

What a beautiful park. Lake front, kayak rentals with a great cove to paddle around in. Walking trails galore. Nice bathrooms, with showers. Flower Mound is a lovely town with any restaurant you could imagine 7-10 miles away

Wish we had stayed here

We didn't actually camp here. We were camped nearby at Possum Kingdom State Park and came here to check things out. The sites were large, wooded with privacy. Lots of cool trails. Lots of birds around the lake.

Nice sites, solid choice

We stayed at site 136 in dogwood canyon, and it was lovely. Next time I'd stay at 137 for a bit more isolation, as you could see the boardwalk from our campsite as the area is sparsely wooded. Couldn't see the parking lot due to brush, but it was a very short walk and that was nice. Composting…

Google Maps needs Help

Caution- Google Maps has no idea where the entrance to this campground is. Entry was very easy and the Ranger on duty was extremely helpful. There is lot's of space in Section 1 but through out the campground there are not very many full hookup sites.

Pros: Nice patio pads at most sites,…

Close to town and still in the middle of now where

I have visited this a few times in 2019 and my husband and I went up here to star gaze. It’s always been quiet, clean and spacious. We enjoy getting away for a little bit and being that we live in Denton this is a great place to sneak off to.

Camping at Texas State Parks

I've camped at several Texas State Parks recently. They're very nice places to camp at. Restrooms are well kept. Some are free and can stay up to 14 days.

Ray Roberts Lake

I tent camped here in December at the Hawthorn campground site 8. One thing I wasn’t expecting was that this was a walk in site. It was about 100 yards from the parking lot to site 8. Kind of a pain when setting up camp but it makes for a very quiet camping experience once you’re done. Water…

This is a big camping area, lots of campsites near the lake

The campground is nice and well maintained and sites are fairly well spaced with lots of grass, trees and open areas. The park staff were very friendly and helpful. We were in site 78 for 5 days. Only a few of the sites in the Deer Ridge campground loop looked level, fortunately ours was one of…

My favorite

One of my favorite Texas state parks. Ve RT y nice campground on a lake. But do NOT miss the penitentary. Cliffs forming a prison below used during the civil war. Amazing rock structure with rock climbers.

Simple Beauty

The park was a simple beauty get away. Nothing too spectacular, but still a nice spot in nature. The hosts and rangers were super nice and helpful along the way. Some campsites were so-so while others had 200 degrees of lake front views. These spots were jaw dropping.

The hiking is simple, the…

Expensive but almost worth it

One of the more expensive Texas state parks. Standard electric at 25/night. Large bathrooms and lots of trash bins. Actual pay phones (who knew those still existed?) the trails are for DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association) so maybe that explains the horrible lack of signage. Bicycle fix it…

Great Park, Great Site

This is an Army Corps of Engineer park. We stayed on the lake. The site was large and private. The park is easy to access. The bathrooms were clean, warm and well lit.
