We are primarily a Permaculture learning lab and living center on 55 acres of land in the Sam Houston Forest in Evergreen, Texas. Camping fees help us meet new people and pay our expense and improvement costs. We try to keep our camping sites in tree stands to keep the look and feel of pure nature as much as possible. There is currently 5 sites. We are slowly developing new primitive sites. There is a pond on the property. The hike to the pond is a fairly easy trail. There are some open areas for riding your bikes and ATVs. There are many brushy areas for exploring. If you make it to the back of the property(bring your compass), there is a shallow creek year around. Bring your walking sticks, bikes, ATVs, fishing poles and bait, life jackets, canoe, kayak, raft, paddles. Off-grid primitive camping is available year around. Costs are$20 per night with your own off-grid camping equipment and $80 per night to rent our equipment. Tent setup is on the forest floor. We grow and regenerate the soil using organic principles. Please only apply bug spray at your campsite). City water is available to fill RV water tanks and containers near the Host shed. Hot water is available in your container upon request. There is an open outdoor restroom and shower for public use available at the back of the shed. We suggest a mosquito net for outdoor open sleeping. We suggest the following items be brought to make your experience more enjoyable: shower shoes, long sleeves, long pants, a hat, extra socks and close-toed shoes(rubber boots are nice), a rain coat, a compass, and walking sticks. In WINTER months we suggest clean loose fitting night time only socks, warm pajamas, and extra top sheet and blanket, a small foot blanket for inside your bedding, rubber boots, a warm hat and scarf and warm gloves. We will provide a portable potty for every 3 people and a fire ring. At the end of your stay, we will pickup any bagged and tied trash you leave and properly dispose of your human waste. A charcoal grill is available for use at no charge upon request on a first come first serve basis. Activities included as part of your camping fees include a group evening farm tour and/or trip to the pond upon request, access to pond activities, fishing without a license, hiking and exploring the property, bike rides on trails on your bikes. Youth archery upon request. As we get our tree guilds setup, any available fresh produce will be available for you to pick and eat during your camping stay. You can earn credits towards your stay by scheduling to volunteer 1 hour on Fridays or Saturdays. $10 per site credit each hour of group volunteer help. Evergreen Guild

## Overview

Double Lake Recreation Area was built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and offers a little of everything, including camping, fishing, swimming, picnicking, hiking and simply relaxing in nature. A variety of tent, RV and group campsites are available.

## Recreation

Double Lake is stocked with bass, bream and catfish. There are three fishing piers and a limited access boat ramp with parking nearby for trailers. Only boats with small electric motors are allowed. Boat and canoe rentals are available seasonally.   
  
A 5-mile hiking trail leads to Big Creek Scenic Area, and there is access to part of the 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail. A 20-mile mountain bike trail meanders around the lake.   
  
Swimmers can relax on a sandy beach after taking a cool plunge.

## Facilities

Double Lake Recreation Area facilities includes family camping units, group camping, picnicking units, a picnic shelter, beach with swimming area and a concession stand with bathhouse.

## Natural Features

The area has rolling hills forested with hardwood and pines. The campground is surrounded by the 23-acre Double Lake.   
  
Temperatures are moderate to cool from September through May, and hot and humid from June to August. Winters are cool and wet.

It took 20 years of development, including weathering a flood and a World War, but in 1956 the community of Huntsville, Texas, finally got their own state park. Located just 10 miles south of town, in the Sam Houston National Forest, this 2,000-acre park of pine and hardwood forest is situated around man-made Lake Raven. Today, locals and visitors alike flock to Huntsville State Park for its hiking trails, water recreation and prolific wildlife. With so many outdoor activities to choose from, a good first stop is the park’s Nature Center. Here you can get information about the local flora and fauna, including the more than 250 species of birds, plus a variety of mammals and alligators, that make the park their home.

Campers at Huntsville State Park have access to 160 tent and RV campsites in three camp areas near the shore of Lake Raven: Prairie Branch, Raven Hill and Coloneh. Full- and partial-hookup RV sites are available, and can accommodate vehicles/trailers up to 60 feet. All sites are equipped with picnic tables, grills, and lantern posts, and drinking water faucets are shared between sites; some sites are ADA accessible. Each camp area provides flush restrooms, showers, playgrounds, picnic areas near the lake, fishing piers, and boat launches. There is a dump station located in the Raven Hill camp area. The park also has two camping cabins for rent. Campsite rates range from $15–$25/night, plus park entrance fee; cabins are $60/night, plus entrance fee.

When you’re ready to play on the water, head down to the lakeshore where you can take a dip in the designated swim area, rent a canoe or kayak (or put in your own) for paddling around the lake, or cast a line for crappie, perch and largemouth bass. A shop near the Prairie Branch day-use area has groceries, ice, fishing supplies and beverages. If you’re up for some roaming or wildlife watching, pick up a trail map and birding guide and go explore more than 20 miles of multiuse paths and nature walks. From the park’s bird blind, you can scan for a variety of songbirds and waterfowl. The park also offers ranger-led nature programs, and there are Junior Ranger activities for the kids.

Stubblefield Lake Recreation Area was built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as part of one of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal programs. Just an hour north of Houston, in the Sam Houston National Forest, Stubblefield offers great outdoor experiences, including camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking and picnicking.
