State Park review

Lake Brownwood area is full of trees, nice lake for boating, fishing and jet skis. The state park sits on a pretty cove of the lake. Sites 50,51 offer privacy and are close the bathroom/showers....not too close. You can see the water, but aren’t lakefront. Typical state park amenities. Sites have…

Rock climbing and kayaking

LMWSP has tons of activities for the family. You can spend the day exploring and climbing the rock formations, bring climbing gear if you plan to get to the top. You can also spend your day on the water, swimming on the beach, fishing from a pier or exploring the shoreline by kayak. Primitive,…

Wish we had stayed here

We didn't actually camp here. We were camped nearby at Possum Kingdom State Park and came here to check things out. The sites were large, wooded with privacy. Lots of cool trails. Lots of birds around the lake.

Bet it’s great in summer!

We stayed here January 26 -31, 2021 on the first stop of a 3 month escape from Northern Wisconsin winter. I’m guessing it’s great when it’s warm and you have a boat. It was always windy. Concessions store closed for remodeling. Construction on cabin near our site. Nice bathrooms, shower water not…

Great Experience

We arrived around midnight. There was a warm breeze blowing. Big ants strolled nearby but are easily avoidable. The place is right on a lake. The restroom is close by. It was a great experience! Would stay again. We did not see any possums but did see a large female dear grazing.

Camping at Texas State Parks

I've camped at several Texas State Parks recently. They're very nice places to camp at. Restrooms are well kept. Some are free and can stay up to 14 days.

My favorite

One of my favorite Texas state parks. Ve RT y nice campground on a lake. But do NOT miss the penitentary. Cliffs forming a prison below used during the civil war. Amazing rock structure with rock climbers.

Lots of Cedar

Beautiful state park with lake. Several walking trails around the lake and easy to get lost.

Close to home, but plenty of outdoors to explore

Only 1.5 hours outside of the DFW area, Cleburne is a great choice to get away for the weekend. It is quite busy on the weekends being so close to civilization, so make reservations in advance. I picked spot 26 in the Keyhole section of the park. When I got there I found very little level ground.…

Epic beach camping

Wow, such an amazing camping experience! We boondocked with our 36ft motorhome right on the beach.

$12 to get in and stay as much as you’d like. Busy on weekends but very quiet during the week.

They allow driving on the beach here from access #5 and north of it. Watch the tides, best to get in…

Gorgeous CCC Cabins & Nice Campground

The remarkable area of this park lies not in it's campground loop. The loop is pretty, lovely even, and it looks like a lot of other campgrounds on a beautiful lake. But take a walk along the lakeshore trail and see the cabins, dance hall, and steps constructed by the CCC and you'll be transported…

  • Rainy morning at the lake.
  • Lots of spots available in January mid-week.
  • Wish the weather had been better, but this place is probably an oasis in the summertime!

Great campground on the lake

We so enjoyed our stay here! Right on the water and the campgrounds are spaced out enough that you are not right on top of each other. There is a convenience store on site that has most anything you need. There is also a Men’s and Women’s bathrooms with two shower stalls (in the women’s at least) -…

Out of season, quiet place to park

We stayed one night, in January, passing through TX. Easy on/off access to I-20. The park is clean, has full hookups, and is right on the river. Wasn't crowded because it was out of season for tubing, so it was quiet. Park felt safe and was a convenient place to spend the night. The people…
