    Salmon Lake Park & Resort

    Underrated & unique family fun!

We have camped at Salmon Lake many times. It is a favorite of the kiddos. The original owner was a house mover, so there are all kinds of old "western town" type setups..old jail, old barber shop, tons of old cars etc. It is fun just to walk around and look at them all. On some visits there is a train ride that runs, but not always. Some of the buildings are cabin rentals. We have never rented a cabin, only done RV camping, but the cabins look so neat!!

There is a playground by the lake and The lake is gorgeous and the kids like to swim in it. It has a giant slide for them and a swimming dock in the middle. It is like a step back in time to the simpler days, very no frills camping. We have brought dirt bikes and small atv before. Owners are ok if you bring them, just be respectful and don't tear anything up. The owners are great hosts and super nice.

All the spots are different (there are 100s of spots...they don't reserve spots. you just get there and then go pick one.)  There is a wooded section of sites behind the lake, but have never camped in that area. We usually pick a spot in the field near the big fire pit or tree. Most sites do not have fire pits or tables, but we usually find one near a fire pit or table with no problems. Be sure to check the sites before you unhook...some have full hookups, some have sketchy looking electric, but we just check everything before unhooking and use a surge protector.  We always look for full hookup sites and have never had a problem finding one way away from other campers. 10/10 one of our favorite campsites and a seriously underrated spot. We always say it feels like going back to a summer camp in the 70s-80s (in the best kind of way!!)

    Fort Boggy State Park Campground

    Hidden gem

Beautiful small state park. We usually tent camp but this time we decided staying at a cabin. Nice, beautiful and modern cabins. Love the enclosed porch and open porch as well. The cabin was spacious enough for our family of 6. The new family restroom close to the cabins was great, nice and clean. I will be back.

    Fort Parker State Park Campground

Really spacious RV sites on the lake- yahoo!

This was the first trip we took with our new vintage camper and it did not disappoint! Even in the bitter cold of December Fort Parker had plenty to offer. Their sites are well spaced and large with a picnic table and fire ring. There are several right on the lake. They have several hiking trails and a few historic sites to explore. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Fort Parker State Park Campground

    nature & wildlife!

We stopped here overnight on the way home from Renfest in October 2017... it was rustic, we saw a couple of wild hogs on the way to our campsite.

Like the other state parks we had been to, there was running water, tent pads & a nearby restroom. Since we were only there for one night, we didn't get a chance to explore the park.

    Fort Parker State Park Campground

    Fisherman Paradise....Not for Everyone

The front guardhouse/entrance is extra campy. Low light and decorated with 69 yo 74lb catch pictures. This is by far the most fisherman geared Texas State Park we have been to and it's our 12th!

The playground is nicer than expected. The tr ails are well-marked.

A quirk of this park are the neighbors. You drive by 8 plus mailboxes while inside the State Park. An abandoned home half collapsed is seen from the roadway. So that's unique.

Beautiful and generally well kept. It's an older style but they have a newer playground area next to the old one.

    For a family I give this a 2. For Fisherman a 5. For everyone else a 3.

    Hardy's Resort RV Park

    Beautifully laid out Resort

We had a chance to stay here the weekend of the A&M/Auburn game. Place was booked solid, but there was still plenty of room to move around, even with the slide outs out on everyone's RV.

The staff had a game night party and did smores for the kids(okay so I had one too) and sausage wraps for everyone. Beautiful  park, it had 2 ponds and a large grassy area with a gazebo for hanging out, and the cutest miniature life size chess set, yes we played and of course, I won.

There is a really nice size pool with a covered porch area for sitting and a sun/TV room on the other side of the pool area, for lounging; hubby spent time in there watching  sports while the kids played in the pool.

The laundry room was different. The machines didn't use coins they used an app-new technology. Not hard to use just had to download an app and put money on it. The nice thing was the machines let me know when the laundry was ready.

    Lake Limestone Campground and Marina

    Diamond in the Rough

The new owners are going all out to make this a family friendly RV park/campground/marina. Only having it for 14 months, you can see the improvements made. There is a store on site for all your needs, that includes wine from the owners own winery. There a a grill also on sight. The campground is gravel pad sites that are mostly level (try site3). They have cabins if you don’t have a RV. Very friendly and eager to make your stay wonderful.

Our visit was a week before Christmas and the decorations were up and beautiful. Give them a try, as we give them a recommendation.
