Lake Somerville State Park Nails Creek Unit Campground

    Great Fall Camping, Equestrian Area

A nice, quiet fall camping weekend on Lake Somerville. It was a solo trip and since the weather was warm, I brought my kayak on this trip.

Check In: 2p Check Out: 12p

    ⛺ Site#26- Back-In

    💲20 per night+$4/person/day Parks Pass Discount saved$18.00

    • Water
    • 20/30 amp
    • Fire Ring with grate
    • Picnic Table: wood with metal legs, concrete base
    • Site Pad: Asphalt, level, long enough for my camper and truck with room to spare
    • Corrals for horses

    👍🏻 Pros:

    • Extra parking places across the street
    • Can see the lake from this spot

    👎🏻 Cons:

    • There's not a direct trail to the lake shore other than animal trails through some of the tall grass
    • The table and fire ring are on the non-camping side so it was a little strange. Very dark at night on that side.

    📝 Park Notes:

    • Dump Station
    • Restrooms/ Showers- clean. The Bent Tree area has a portable trailer for the restrooms and showers. The main building is closed.
    • There are Munzees and Geocaches here
    • Lots of trails in the park and between this and the Birch Creek Unit
    • Great trails for equestrians
    • Enclosed Group shelter for events (no kitchen)
    • Family Fishing Pond (small)
    • The open style pavilion doesn't appear to be open. Looks like it's is structurally unsound

    🐦 Wildlife:

    • Birds: Great Blue Heron, Cardinals, Chickadees
    • Deer
    • Squirrels

    💜 Highlights of this trip:

•🔥 Campfires and breakfast over the fire

•🐕 My brother came for a short visit to walk the dog

•🛶 Kayaking and there was only ONE other boat on the lake

    •🍂 Nice fall colors

•🚫 Some of the trails and areas of the park were closed this weekend due to public hunts

•🌟 Warm temperatures and clear nights. Lots of stars.

•💚 Found a couple geocaches and put out a few Munzees

    Fort Boggy State Park Campground

    Hidden gem

Beautiful small state park. We usually tent camp but this time we decided staying at a cabin. Nice, beautiful and modern cabins. Love the enclosed porch and open porch as well. The cabin was spacious enough for our family of 6. The new family restroom close to the cabins was great, nice and clean. I will be back.

While the camp spots are few, this area gets extra points for its walking/running/biking trails. The park is open 365 days of the year and is first-come, first-serve on sites. Only $10 for the night. Check out the Lakeside Icehouse for events and live music throughout the year. Now the trails: ~20 miles through the trees with well-marked signs to guide you. Lake Conroe-Houston North KOA

    After hours tent camping

My wife, son, and I arrived around 9pm on a Saturday because two other Sam Houston National Forest campgrounds we intended to stay at were already full. Since it was after hours we were skeptical that we would actually find a spot out of the 5 available but thankfully there was 1 spot left #2, in between two other campers who had obviously been there all day. Water on site for each camper, and electricity, two benches around a firepit, and a picnic table. We arrived after hours and were not given a bathroom code so that was an issue and not ideal, but all else was ok. We left by 9am.

    Hardy's Resort RV Park

    Beautifully laid out Resort

We had a chance to stay here the weekend of the A&M/Auburn game. Place was booked solid, but there was still plenty of room to move around, even with the slide outs out on everyone's RV.

The staff had a game night party and did smores for the kids(okay so I had one too) and sausage wraps for everyone. Beautiful  park, it had 2 ponds and a large grassy area with a gazebo for hanging out, and the cutest miniature life size chess set, yes we played and of course, I won.

There is a really nice size pool with a covered porch area for sitting and a sun/TV room on the other side of the pool area, for lounging; hubby spent time in there watching  sports while the kids played in the pool.

The laundry room was different. The machines didn't use coins they used an app-new technology. Not hard to use just had to download an app and put money on it. The nice thing was the machines let me know when the laundry was ready.

    Lake Limestone Campground and Marina

    Diamond in the Rough

The new owners are going all out to make this a family friendly RV park/campground/marina. Only having it for 14 months, you can see the improvements made. There is a store on site for all your needs, that includes wine from the owners own winery. There a a grill also on sight. The campground is gravel pad sites that are mostly level (try site3). They have cabins if you don’t have a RV. Very friendly and eager to make your stay wonderful.

Our visit was a week before Christmas and the decorations were up and beautiful. Give them a try, as we give them a recommendation.

    Fort Boggy State Park Campground

    Cute little state park

My wife and I rented a cabin for Christmas. It was clean and new. Wonderful bathrooms nearby. We hiked the trails and went and checked out the little lake.

The park staff where super friendly. We had a great stay.

I would give it 5 stars, but the park does not have RV sites. Cabins and primitive camping only

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat affects comfort in basic cabins. One visitor to Lake Bryan Campground stated, "One of those, you get what you pay for kind of places. The facilities are there.
