GuideWe stayed in one of their air-conditioned glamping cabins. It was very nice and clean and the AC stayed very cold. They have private, lockable, full bathrooms right behind the cabins. The place is very pretty and the staff friendly. We loved tubing and kayaking the San Marcos River! It’s a great getaway!

Their glamping cabins are super nice and had everything we needed including AC, WiFi, full kitchen, fire pits, hammocks etc. We have a family of 6 and the setup was perfect: 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. The property itself pretty large and has a lot of creek frontage. We kayaked, paddle paddle boarded, swam, fished and more! They also have lots of amenities: 2 pools, 2 hot tubs, volleyball court, basketball court, game room, horseshoe pits and more. We will definitely be back!
ScoutBEDBUGS. I had a terrible stay at Son’s Blue River Camp. There are bedbugs in the log cabin. I had to pack up and leave the cabin in the middle of the night to find a hotel. I have video evidence of the bedbugs in the bed and I was bitten multiple times. I also believe they were aware there were bedbugs on the property and passed it off as a simple “maintenance issue”.
In addition to this huge problem, they are also unorganized. The staff didn’t properly inform me about changes to my reservation. I was sent a last minute email with vital information that they should have confirmed with me via phone call or text.
They also allowed me to buy a tubing/kayaking/shuttle wristband during my reservation. When I spoke to an employee on the phone about the problems with the property, she informed me that they were not even operating the shuttle/tubing during the week because it was “off season”.
I tried emailing the property as soon as this happened and did not get a response. I also called twice to speak to the manager about it. The manager, Rachel, never called me back. Do not stay at Son’ Blue River Camp.
It was a 0/10 experience.
ScoutThe tent camping spots in this somewhat small state were spacious. They had both a grill and a fire pit, picnic table, water spigot, and a "lantern hook" (a giant pipe thing like for a basketball hoop, but with a little hook sticking out of it. Each site is supposed to accommodate 2 cars, but about half of them only had parking for 1. Fortunately we got there early and were able to switch. Try to be nice to the camp hosts, they're volunteers and when I got grumpy at the one who told us we couldn't park with our wheels hanging off the pad, I thought she might cry.
The website doesn't get updated easily, so ignore any reports of tubing. There are no tube rentals there and no convenient, nearby tubing put-ins/take-outs. Don't try to tube the Zedler Mill Paddling Trail. The water is super slow and full of logs and if you suck at tubing it could take you 10 hours.
GuideSon’s Island is awesome! What a great experience we had. We stayed in one of their glamping tents. It had 2 queen beds and a twin bed but the best part is it had air-conditioning and it stayed very comfortable. You get to use the cabanas for free at night from 7:30 PM - 10:00 am when you rent a tent but you must also rent a cabana for the day if you plan to stay. It is well worth the money. Each cabana comes with its own private dock, lots of comfortable seating, electricity, water, BBQ pit, picnic table and hammock. We heard lots of people rave about this place. It definitely surpassed our expectations!

The Park: they have a large pool area with cafe and snacks. The property is large and spaces are spread out through out the park. The big draw is the Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake, and the woods and hills.
They have hot shoes, bath houses, laundry.
The sites: Gravel and mostly level, very few sites were unlevel. You’re surrounded by hills so it is nice and quiet. They are full hook up sites. Each site had a fire ring and picnic table. Small deer herds would move through the park each evening. Many of the campers feed them corn and they know the sounds and come running out of the hills.
The campground is near grocery and hardware stores. Within an hour are several bigger towns with more stores.
Cellular: T-Mobile was decent but not great. They do have Campground WiFi that worked faster.
TravelerWe scheduled a single-night trip in late November to work the bugs out a new camping trailer. We stayed in campsite 24 which backs up to the little lake. It has running water but not electricity.
They had just finished renovating the showers on this side of the park. Instead of a shared bathroom each for men and women there are two "family" bathrooms with door locks. It's nicer overall, but you end up waiting more than you used to.
Like nearly all the state parks, this one is well-maintained. The camp host was quick to stop by and introduce himself as we were setting up camp.
Even in November the county in which Palmetto SP in was still under a burn ban. We were allowed to use a propane fire pit though.
For history buffs, this park is one of the CCC-built parks in Texas.

I was on a little fishing trip and decided to check out a few campgrounds in the area.
Landa RV park is a solid choice. The staff are super friendly and while it is a small campground, they offer nice amenities. At the entrance of the park there’s a admission office and small store. All the campsites have drive-up parking spaces, electricity, water and the picnic tables. There are some campsites that are located right along the river. I think site #506 is one of the best sties. There is a little premium on the price, but it is well worth it for quick access to the river. RVs are allowed to park at the camping sites along the river. However, there is also a designated RV lot with complete hook ups. There is a community space with some picnic tables. The restroom facilities are located near the RV lot. The facilities are modern and clean with flush toilets and shower stalls. They even have a laundry room on site. Next to the campground there are facilities to rent tubes if you want to float down the river. I actually came to this area to fly fish and I caught a number of small panfish. There are also bass and trout in the river.
Whether your visiting to fish, float or just relax this campground is a relaxing place to visit.
