    Colonia Del Rey RV Park

    Convenient location!

Colonia Del Ray is a nice little park, nothing to fancy. We usually stay here when visiting family that lives in Flower Bluff. It is a very convenient location, about five minutes from an HEB and within thirty minutes of most of the Corpus Christi attractions. They have a lot of rental spots for such a small park, so there is not much room between you and your neighbors. If you going for a fun trip at the beach you wouldn’t be spending much time at your RV anyway.

The rate is forty bucks a night for an RV with free wi-fi and cable. The facilities are clean, but don’t expect much scenery. There are not many trees, but at least you can see the ocean. There are coin laundry machines, pool, playground, and a mini gated dog area. I believe they have rental cabins on one side of the park. It seems like locals use this park to post up their boats and RVs as well. You can make reservations online, and the owners of the place are very kind.

Flower Bluff is a great town with wonderful people. Make sure you check out some of the locally eateries. About two blocks from the park is a seafood restaurant located on the water with a huge deck. They have excellent food and it is in walking distance which is a plus! Also if you have kids take them to the U.S.S Lexington! It is so awesome and hands-on with airplanes on the top deck!

    Choke Canyon State Park Campground

    Wide open spaces

The sites are large with plenty of room for kiddos to run around. Sites typically have plenty of room to park a boat as well. Each electric site has a picnic table with covering and a fire pit grill. Some sites offer large trees for shade, but overall shade is sparse.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Overused and it shows it

    Pros:

    • Super friendly Park Headquarters personnel

l• Great aluminum floating fishing pier with a covered fish cleaning pavilion

    • Site aluminum picnic table on concert pad under a tree

    • Park entrance gate closed 10 pm to 7 am, but an access code was provided at check-in

    • Toilet/shower clean, but just worn out and desperately needing renovation

    • Great CCC-constructed pavilion

    • 3 bars AT&T cell service

    • Howling coyotes nightly

    Cons:

    • Overused park that desperately needs some infrastructure improvements

    • Unlevel side-to-side concert site parking pad was in poor condition and barely long enough for 28 ft trailer

    • Septic system cleanout pipe smack in the middle of our campsite causing a tripping hazard

    • Metal fire pit with cooking grate was overflowing with ash upon arrival

    • No vegetation between sites= no privacy from neighbors

    • Constant vehicle traffic through campground loop• Toilets were difficult to flush and clogged easily.

    • Toilet/shower building interior walls crumbling exposing the structure

    Choke Canyon State Park Campground

Shelter Area Cabin 13 was awesome

Stayed here for a weekend with my family. So nice to have AC in the cabin with shade on the little patio area. I’m convinced site 13 is the best. Only con was that others were using it to get down to the lake so we had a few people walk right up next to the cabin with their fishing gear. Bathrooms are a short walk away, as well as trash cans/dumpster. Woke up to a large group of javelinas at our site who were sniffing around. We set up a tent at the cabin area and were able to have lots of shade.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

Nice place for a weekend getaway!

Lake Corpus Christie is a beautiful place where you can camp and enjoy water activities but if you enjoy hiking this is not the place. Unfortunately, it lacks hiking trails. There are plenty of spacious campsites next to the water where you can enjoy laying in a hammock, campfires, and grilling but lacks privacy. Catfish Cove offers water only sites but other areas offer water electricity, full hook-up sites, or enclosed shelters with AC. While we enjoyed camping here there is an over abundance of stickers that we had to continually pull out of the dogs paws.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park Campground

    Great State Park!

We enjoyed our one night at Corpus Christi State Park.  As with other state parks, it's a bargain, especially with the State Parks Pass.  We had a nice pull through site with a  view of the lake and the marina.  The covered picnic table was nice and we were able to use the grill to make a great dinner.  The sunset was spectacular. We would return to this quiet and beautiful setting anytime.

    Rockport RV Resort

    Perfect Little Spot

Came across this place while camping at Goose Island State Park in Rockport. Julie is the owner and she is super nice and accommodating. Amenities are endless: laundry, shower, pool, electric hookup, full kitchen, fridge, hot tub, TV and lounge area and lots of shade. Lots of RV spots and a few places to set up tents. Usual rate is 25$ for RVs but Julie was so nice and allowed me to set up a tent and use the park for 15$ for the night. Highly recommend coming here and camping. Located right near town and 5 minutes from the water.

The area sits at approximately 115 feet above sea level in the South Texas Plains ecological region. During summer months, cabin camping provides essential protection from intense heat, while offering wildlife viewing opportunities year-round.

What to do

**Fishing opportunities: At Lake Corpus Christi State Park, visitors can fish from the aluminum floating pier. "Beautiful CCC building. Saw turtles near it in the lake. The campground has a good view of the water and is near the fishing pier," notes Emily M.

**Wildlife viewing: Watch for local fauna throughout the camping areas. At Choke Canyon State Park, "We got to see a bunch of deers, bunnies, wild turkeys and plenty of colorful birds!" according to Miriam M. The park functions as a wildlife refuge with diverse species.

**Historical exploration: Visit nearby historical sites for educational day trips. At Goliad State Park, "This park was so great. There was all kinds of history there that you can see for very low prices and also for free," writes Red S. The town of Goliad features a famous hanging tree and Spanish colonial structures.

What campers like

**Shaded sites: Many campers appreciate tree coverage at rental cabins. At Longhorn Camping Area, one visitor notes, "Great historic site. Shady trails, too, along the river. We stayed at site 14. It looks like number 17 and number 19 are real shady."

**Family amenities: Pioneer Beach Resort offers activities beyond just lodging. "A friend and I, along with our families have been making an annual trip to Pioneer for a few years now and only bad part is when it's time to leave. The pools, and multiple rec rooms are always clean and in great shape," shares Lamar M.

**Nature sightings: The regional cabins provide access to diverse ecosystems. "We camped with 2 kids and a dog and had a great time. There was fishing and a lake some were swimming in. We searched for wildlife and made s'mores," says Noelle S. about Lake Corpus Christi State Park.

What you should know

**Varied site quality: Cabin conditions vary significantly between locations. At Mustang Hollow Campground, "Sites are small, dirt and uneven. Pictures show a playground, dog park, etc., however, none of these things exist. It looks like they did at one point, but not in the last decade."

**Seasonal water levels: Lake levels fluctuate throughout the year. "The lake is sometimes completely dry, but when there is water, it is quite expansive. It's secluded due to being a large lake," advises Andrea F. about Lake Corpus Christi.

**Weekend crowding: Expect higher occupancy during weekends. "Very large spacious campsite. Restroom and shower located very close by. Camped site 60/61. Beautiful grounds. Lake walking distance," reports Chris S. who visited Lake Corpus Christi during Easter weekend.

Tips for camping with families

**Activity planning: Schedule water activities during morning hours when temperatures are milder. At Lake Corpus Christi, "Not too much hiking here, but you can also walk the roads. The campground has a good view of the water and is near the fishing pier."

**Pet considerations: If bringing pets to rental cabins, check specific policies. "Fine place to stop on the way through and very friendly staff. There is a petting zoo with miniature donkeys and horses, goats and emus! This was a wonderful treat feeding the critters," shares Nick & Allyssa S. about Mustang Hollow.

**Budget options: Colonia Del Rey RV Park offers cabin rentals with convenient access to supplies. "It is a very convenient location, about five minutes from an HEB and within thirty minutes of most of the Corpus Christi attractions," notes Brittany S.

Tips from RVers

**Private beach access: Some rental cabins provide direct beach access. At Firefly Coastal Bend, "The private beach is stunning, and the fishing spots are fantastic for those looking to relax by the water," according to Kasey L.

**Proximity planning: Choose cabin locations based on trip purpose. "This was the perfect place to stay in proximity of our son's house. Nice, clean campground with bay views, great sunrise and sunset," says Cindy S. about Firefly Coastal Bend.

**Utility considerations: Full hookup cabins cost more but offer greater convenience. "Only $25 for full hookups, $15 for just water and electric, $10 for tents, $5 day fee. Lots of shade, lots of room in the FCU sites," shares Michael M. about pricing at Lake Corpus Christi State Park.
