Double Rockin' R Campground + River Access

The Double Rockin' R Campground is located in New Braunfels, Texas along the Guadalupe River. There are actually five campgrounds owned by the operators or this campground and each varies in amenities. This campground offers basic amenities, but great access to the the Guadalupe River and the town of New Braunsfels.

Most people visit this campground to float, paddle or fish the river in the summer. The weekends can get quite busy, but the weekdays are less busy and often empty. Make reservations if you plan to visit on the weekend. Walk-up if you plan to visit during the week.

There is a little store at the entrance where you can pay your entrance fees, rent tubes and buy basic supplies - they do have ice cream. The staff is very friendly and will allow you to check out the campground before actually paying. The campsites are located down a little road. There is an open field with some primitive campsites, but the best site are located right along the river.

There is some shade, but not every site has shade. So I recommend visiting the site before reserving the site. It is best to bring some type of sun shade. There are restroom facilities with sinks, flush toilets and showers. The facilities are a bit dated, but are adequate.

The real reason to visit this campground is the quick and easy access to both the town and the river. You can walk or drive to restaurants, grocery stores, banks, etc. You can walk right up to the river and jump in. Depending on the time of year, the amount of rain and the water release from the upstream dam, the river can be quite shallow or run deep - use caution when entering the water.

This campground is pretty basic. The operators have another property further up River Road that I feel is nicer and has more amenities.
