Amarillo Travel Center I-40

Off Interstate 40 in Amarillo, this municipal overnight parking area accommodates everything from big rigs to passenger cars in its expansive lot. The facility currently operates with portable restroom trailers after water line issues disabled the permanent facilities and drinking fountains. Highway noise from I-40 drops off during evening hours, though truckers share the large vehicle section with RVs.

The location sits directly across from the newly opened Buc-ee's travel center, providing 24-hour restroom access despite the temporary water situation. Amarillo KOA offers full hookups about two miles north for campers needing extended stays. This free overnight stop works well for travelers crossing Texas who need a safe place to rest.

Many campers appreciated the large, well-lit parking spaces and consistently clean 24-hour restrooms. The facility offers convenient overnight parking with minimal highway noise and proximity to Buc-ee's for supplies.

Clean & Safe

As far as travel centers/rest areas go, this one was very clean and felt safe. Arrived on a Monday at 9:30p with plenty of car spots still available. Usual noise expected - highway traffic, generators, people in parking spots directly next to you. Buc-ee’s across the street for gas and food in the morning before hitting the road again.

Super clean!

We stopped here while passing through and set up. Bathrooms and the entire facility were extremely clean.

Nice spot for an overnight!

Plenty of parking, grass to walk the dog, 24 hour bathrooms, a Buc-ee’s next door…lots of other campers here in a well lit lot, great for a stopover!

Amarillo, TX - Travel Center

Lots of parking: Big Rigs to car-size. The 18-wheelers crowd up the big rig lot though. Clean restrooms. Across the street from Buc-ee’s. Overnight parking only. No amenities other than 24/hour restrooms.

Can't beat location for free stay

A little highway noise that decreases later in the evening. Nothing earplugs can't fix. the Buc-ees across the street is now open.

Unfortunately the water line is currently broken. No drinking fountain or flush toilets, but they parked portable trailer bathrooms in the lot, so still 24 hr access. This will be a five star once the water is fixed.

Clean and Easy

Large well lit lot, large parking spaces for any size vehicle. 24/7 very clean bathrooms. Well posted signage. The Buc-ees next store is still under construction.

Great easy overnight stop, can’t even hear the airport.

Amarillo By Morning

Used the app to find a spot to stop driving as it was getting close to midnight. Saw in the 1 review that it had overnight spots for RVs. Pulled in around 1230am Valentines Day. Restrooms 24hrs. When we woke up, toured the visitor center, we've never seen so many brochures. The staff were very friendly & it seemed always cleaning. The place was very clean inside and out. Easy to pull in & large marked spots for any size vehicles. We could hear the interstate traffic but I liked it. Kinda like sleeping w a fan on. Grabbed the geocache on the way out & ate at Dennys across the way. They are currently building a giant Bucees next door to this visitor center.

A Gem

The Travel Center is a great place to spend a night on the road. The facility is new with very clean bathrooms that are open all night. Overnight parking is allowed and the car/RV parking area is far enough away from I-40 that you hardly hear any traffic. The Amarillo Travel Information Center is a great place for a free, good nights sleep.
