Clean, Quiet, and Spacious

We spent 3 nights at Bear Den Family Campground at site A12. The campground is located directly off the Blue Ridge Parkway about a half a mile into the woods. Once you arrive and check in, a staff member leads you to your site and guides you in. We had a back in site, but there are plenty of pull…

Getting away from it all

I started out coming here with my grandparents in 1978 every summer spending 2 to 4 weeks during the summer up here. Back then it was was all primitive camp sites with no electricity or water hook ups. There were 3 loops with campsites A,B,& C loops each loop had a women's & a men's…

All Dirt Roads Lead to……

Mortimer Campground does not disappoint! Hiking, fishing, swimming, and waterfall splashing abound on, and around, this campground. Many of the campsites are situated along Thorps Creek, so the sound of the creek can lull you to sleep. We stayed on site #6, which was on the creek. Two…

Dispersed Camping

We drove in mid day and couldn’t find a spot, unfortunately. All dispersed spots were taken. However, there are parking spaces that you can park in overnight in front of hunting shelters. Just be mindful of how you park and don’t take up handicapped parking.

Camping in the mountains

Lovely woody and grassy field campground with only electric at our site. The sunrise is beautiful on the big field. The sites are well spaced and fairly level. The bath house had clean and private bathing rooms with great hot water and pressure. There is a place to wash dishes outside as well.…

Great family campground

This was a perfect place for a weekend getaway. We stayed at a tent site and were happy with the amenities. There’s a pond for fishing and swimming, trails to hike, and playgrounds for the kids. The only downside is the sites are quite close to one another and the golf carts can be loud, although…

Wild horses, beautiful trails and views

This was my third time here, but the first time in 25+ years. This is a wonderful state park located near the high point of Virginia, Mt Rogers, and as such, it is a popular destination for hikers. Oh, and there is that other natural attraction, the wild ponies that roam the mountains. It’s not…

Sites very close together. Bath House pretty nice though.

The sites are very close together. The tent sites have a sand base to the site and sand gets everywhere! We were across from the bath house and the bath house was nice and clean but kinda small. Friendly atmosphere and it appears that most people are long term campers.

Nice Campground near Asheville

I actually had a better experience then I expected! This was my first experience with KOA and I had mixed reviews. Pros: Staff was super friendly, it was so nice to be assorted to my site at check and to have help backing in. I requested that since I have a pop-up camper and no bathroom that I be…

Great views

Enjoyed the weekend. Very nice campground. Great pull through spots with great views.

No consistent cell service and no wifi if you need to work. Good excuse to shut down and enjoy the creation.

Great State Park - Beautiful Views

Very nice park. Easy pull through lots for RVs that have great views.

Only downside is phone signal. . . Not that your should need it, but sometimes we camp during the work week. Not an option here. Just enjoy the quiet.

Friendly Staff but little high priced

We had a good time here this past weekend. The staff is really friendly however I thought the price was on the high side when the pool hasn’t opened yet. Make sure you bring leveling blocks. Also if you want to do the water activities and water slide that is extra and you will need to purchase an…

On the fly

My husband and I took a road trip and needed to find a spot to car camp last minute in the area. The narrow road to go up/down is alittle sketchy but we made it. The first two spots were taken so we drove to the end where it seperated to private drives. There was a fire pit and a trail that we…
