Reservations fill fast at Buck Hill Campground, so calling ahead is strongly advised, especially around holiday weekends. Rates run $25 to $160 per night depending on site type, and the campground stays open year-round near Plumtree in the North Carolina mountains. Sites range from grassy tent spots along the treeline to level RV pads with full hookups, including electric, water, and sewer connections for rigs up to 50 feet. A dump station is also on-site.
Water access is a consistent draw. A creek runs through the property, a fishing pond sits nearby, and several tent sites sit close enough to the river that kids can wade in shallow water. Anglers show up regularly, with multiple reviewers noting people fishing both the lake and river throughout the day. The campground has open terrain as well as tree-covered spots, giving campers some choice in sun exposure. AT&T users have reported no cell signal, but the campground provides free WiFi that reviewers describe as strong enough for streaming.
The property is family-run and actively maintained. Firewood gets delivered by golf cart, the bathhouses are consistently noted as clean and well-kept, and on-site amenities include a playground, game room, basketball, and a large open field. Kirsten J. describes the riverfront tent site as "phenomenal," noting water and greenery on three sides. Nearby campgrounds such as Mountain River Family Campground and Secluded Valley Family Campground give campers additional options in the same corridor, and the area also serves as a base for places to camp near Linville Falls. Fall foliage draws a surge in bookings, so reserve well in advance if visiting in October.
