Chris' Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Anglers and hikers based in the northern Black Hills will find Chris' Campground a practical launching point: Spearfish Canyon, with its hiking trails and trout fishing, sits a short drive from the property, and Deadwood is roughly 20 minutes out. The campground runs from April 15 through October 15, giving most of the warm season for day trips into the surrounding hills and monuments.

Sites here are grassy and tree-lined, providing solid shade across much of the property. Reviewers consistently flag cleanliness as a standout. Ronald H. notes that "showers and restrooms are very clean," and that sentiment appears across multiple recent stays. The staff draws repeated praise as well, particularly for guiding newer RV owners through trickier back-in spots and offering local recommendations without being asked. Steve D. puts it plainly: "nothing extraordinary or fancy, but well run and organized." Sites are described as large and spaced out, which helps during busier stretches of summer.

Amenities include full hookups with electric, water, and sewer connections, a dump station, laundry, a camp store, and three pools divided to separate quieter adults from families with kids. WiFi is available, though at least one reviewer found connectivity inconsistent after 10 p.m. Cell service has come up as a minor concern in reviews, so downloading maps or directions before arrival is worth considering. Fires require a metal ring; the campground has them on hand, but campers need to ask at check-in rather than expect one at the site.

Rates run $23 to $65 per night depending on site type, with full hookup spots at the higher end of that range. Pets are welcome. The campground sits close enough to Spearfish that resupply runs are easy, and campers exploring places to camp near Spearfish will find this one among the more full-service options in the area. Nearby alternatives include Jo's Field Of Dreams Campground and Spearfish KOA camp for those who want to compare before booking.

Repeat visitors make up a notable share of the guest base here, which tends to say something about day-to-day consistency. If you're planning a multi-day base camp for Black Hills exploration, this one is worth a look.

Outstanding customer service. Area is well maintained, and quiet at night

I have stayed at this campground several times with my van camper. I was exceptionally pleased with the grounds, which are thoughtfully laid out and well maintained. The staff is very helpful with tips, suggesting local sites to visit, directions, etc.

The showers are clean, the laundry is convenient, everything you could want whether you are in a tent or a 5th wheeler.

I highly recommend this campground.

Clean, shaded, and close to adventures!

This campground is a great location to stay while exploring the beautiful Black Hills and Spearfish! We had last minute changes to our reservations and the staff was very accommodating. Check in was pleasant and the staff did a great job of maintaining and cleaning the facilities. It is located in a safe area and I felt completely comfortable on my morning runs! When I told them we were pretty new to the camper life they gave us a pretty easy spot to back into. The fella directing us to the spot was a ton of help too!

AWESOME !

Very nice campground! The family really works hard at providing a great, clean environment. Very nice people who will go out of their way to make sure your stay is one you remember with a smile. The price for a nice full hookup site is very fair. Showers and restrooms are very clean. Also nice pool and great Wi-Fi. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else in this area!

Very friendly staff

The staff here was great from the check in desk to the escort who led us to our site. It was very tight with the trees but he helped us back in with zero issues and saved my marriage I’m sure.

Great campground, great people

The employees and hosts are very friendly and helpful. The sites were large and spaced out well. Everything was clean and well taken care of. The location of the park is awesome - 2 minutes from town, 20 minutes to Deadwood, and in the middle of two national monuments. Highly recommend!

quiet place, but a few fyi's

They advertise that they have Wi-Fi but it's almost like they shut it off at 10 o'clock at night when quiet time starts which is a great time for looking up directions or places to see, we could never connect for long and streaming- which means no Netflix its against the rules(which we never saw only overheard). They allow fires but make sure you get a metal ring because it's illegal to have a fire in south Dakota if you don't have one they have them but they don't leave them at the sites or let you know they are available. Also no petting zoo we specifically came here thinking they had one because they advertised and after we arrived they informed us it was turned into a dog park i have no pictures but there's not much to see here

Nice spot

Clean facilities along with helpful and friendly staff. Management took us to our site and gave assistance while I backed up in trailer spot. Although we did not make use of the pools, they were kept clean and people did a good job of social distancing. Lush, grassy site.

Well Run. Everything you need

Just wrapped up our 3rd stay in 4 years here. Love it!! Plenty of shade in most of the sites. They do an excellent job of maintaining the facilities and provide everything needed for an excellent stay. Nothing extraordinary or fancy, but well run and organized. 2 separate pools depending on if you want to listen to a bunch of screaming kids or not. Highly recommend!!

The owners are very helpful and friendly, The campground is close to lots of great activities such as Spearfish Canyon, as well as Deadwood and Lead.
