Walmart — Philadelphia Supercenter

Stocking up on supplies is the main draw at this Walmart Supercenter in Philadelphia, connected to the Franklin Mall complex and sitting just off a major East Coast interstate corridor. The lot is freshly paved with clearly marked painted directions and strong overhead lighting. Noise is constant, day and night, from surrounding traffic and retail activity, so campers sensitive to ambient sound should plan accordingly. Nearby Philadelphia Sam's Club and a Wawa, Sunoco, and Conoco fuel stations round out the resupply options within close range. Restrooms inside are clean, and staff are reported as friendly. A workable overnight stop for road travelers who need to resupply and move on.

Busy-As-A-Bee Around a Honeycomb

Granted, you’ve just gotten off the busiest interstate highway running up and down the East coast and that little 10 lane highway 63 that brought you to this particular Walmart, which wasn’t exactly the easiest to navigate, but when you do arrive here, the non-stop traffic and otherwise road warrior mayhem won’t cease. This place is incredibly busy, even during non-peak hours. That said, the lot is either very well-maintained or seemingly brand spanking new with freshly poured asphalt and well-appointed ground-painted directions. There’s also great lighting adding to the overall vibe of security you’ll experience here. While not the quietest of places, if you can manage all of the non-stop humming in and around this place, it really wasn’t a bad spot for a layover, be that for several hours or overnight.

This Walmart Supercenter is just medium-sized and is connected to the Franklin Mall shopping complex, so one of the other advantages to this location is the myriad of other nearby retail options you’ll have to stock up on like Five Below, Marshalls& Home Goods, chow down at joints such as Charleys Cheesesteaks& Melt N Sip or fuel up with stations like Sunoco, Conoco and Wawa while here. And while this Walmart Supercenter likely has just about everything you might need to stock up, there’s also a nearby Sam’s and Home Depot should be looking for something else. This Walmart did feel quite new inside with great, clean restrooms as well as incredibly friendly staff.

While scoring criteria may vary from one person to the next, here are the 5 most important criteria that informed my rating of this overnight location: convenience(EZ on- and off-access), safety& security, quality(of facilities), peace& quiet and amenities(either on-site or nearby). Here’s how I ranked this particular overnight spot:

Convenience: 4

Safety & Security: 4

Quality: 4

Peace & Quiet: 2

Amenities: 4

Overall, I scored this location a 4

Happy Overnighting!
