Fishing opportunities: Anglers can enjoy multiple water bodies at French Creek State Park. "There are two lakes, Scotts Run Lake and Hopewell Lake that you can fish at, kayak, canoe or just relax by. There are several warm water fish in the lakes including northern pike, chain pickerel, bass, walleye, muskellunge and several types of panfish," notes Jen R.
Hiking exploration: The trail systems surrounding Hibernia County Park provide accessible walking routes for all skill levels. A camper described, "Walking/hiking trails and the lake were super peaceful," while another mentioned there are "a half dozen easy trails, the longest is around 2 miles."

Christina H. shared, "The property is well kept and campsites are a good distance from each other. Plenty of open field as well as wooded areas... Our site was fully private (could not see or hear neighbors)."
Water views: Campsites at Spruce Run Recreation Area offer direct reservoir access. As Jules T. described, "Our site was on the water and it was really nice. A duck visited us every morning." Another camper noted, "I love the water views. The sites are large, many have nice mix of sun and shade. You can launch your kayak easily from the shore."
Year-round accessibility: French Creek State Park remains open throughout all seasons, making it ideal for winter camping enthusiasts. "Stayed over for one night in early December. Showers and bathrooms were great! If you're traveling through, there are many places to eat nearby," reported Galit P., highlighting the park's winter amenities.
What you should know
Bathroom facilities vary: Campground bathroom quality differs significantly across the region. At Spruce Run, one camper warned, "The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. I thought with COVID they were cleaning them more, but for the entire weekend, someone's #2 remained all over the toilet, floor, and corner wall."
Water access limitations: Some campgrounds restrict water availability. At Hibernia County Park, a visitor cautioned, "There are NO HOOKUPS, and water is not easy to come by if you are in an RV. If you are coming in an RV, you should come with a full water tank. There is one spigot at the 'bathroom'."
