Within Oregon State Forests, Trask River Campsites provides dispersed camping along a gravel road system managed by the Oregon Department of Forestry. This drive-in and walk-in site sits approximately 11 miles from Tillamook, accessed via a winding gravel road that can present challenges during wet weather conditions.
The campground features five clearly marked sites, all equipped with fire pits and positioned within steps of the Trask River. Site configurations vary considerably - some accommodate multiple camper vans while others suit single vehicles. Site 2 offers riverside placement with space for larger rigs, though campers note occasional muddy conditions. Site 3 sits across from the river on slightly elevated ground, reducing flood risk but requiring careful maneuvering for extended vans. Sites 4 and 5 provide direct river access, though Site 4 sits near log clearing equipment.
"River rushing near the spots makes for a really nice sound to fall asleep to," notes Dylan B.. The flowing water creates consistent ambient sound throughout the night. Wild elk roam the area, and ATV events occur periodically. Cell service remains unavailable, so campers should prepare accordingly.
Road conditions deteriorate during rainy periods, with potential washouts and mudslides affecting access. A commercial campground with supplies operates several miles before reaching the dispersed sites.
