With approximately 15 sites on level grass terrain, Port of Cascade Locks Campground operates year-round as a municipal facility directly alongside the Columbia River. The campground accommodates RVs up to 35 feet with electric and water hookups, while tent campers can set up anywhere on the open grass areas. Sites lack privacy barriers and sit close together in a parking lot-style arrangement.
Active railroad tracks run within 20 yards of the camping area, with trains passing throughout the night starting as early as 6 AM. The campground sits at the base of a small bluff overlooking Cascade Locks, providing direct river access and views across the Columbia Gorge. A central bathhouse offers flush toilets and high-pressure showers, though facilities may close during winter months. The campground also features a dump station and WiFi access.
The location draws Pacific Crest Trail hikers during summer months, creating what reviewers describe as a community atmosphere among through-hikers resupplying in town. Kathy B. notes "there is no privacy between sites, but the scenery is gorgeous." Thunder Island sits adjacent to the campground, accessible for walking, while the Bridge of the Gods and downtown Cascade Locks remain within easy walking distance.
Tent sites cost around $25 per night, with RV hookup sites priced slightly higher. Reservations carry a $10 fee and are accepted during summer months only. The campground works best for travelers prioritizing river access and town proximity over privacy and quiet.
