Elk Cove Trailhead

Free and hike-in only, Elk Cove Trailhead sits within Mt. Hood National Forest and puts campers about a hundred yards from the parking area before reaching two or three fire rings scattered on either side of the lot. No restrooms exist at the site itself, though Kinnikinnick (Laurance Lake) Campground is one mile down the road and has vault facilities. Pets are welcome. This setup works best for hikers and anglers who want a no-cost overnight with minimal infrastructure and can carry their gear a short distance in.

Adorable backup if Kinnikinnick is full

There are 2-3 fire rings to either side of the parking area at Elk Cove Trailhead. There are no amenities, though you can head one mile back down the road to the Kinnikinnick Campground, where there are restrooms, but no running water.

You'll have to carry your stuff a hundred yards or so to the fire rings.

This is a beautiful, secluded spot.
