The access roads — particularly the northern approach along Lolo Pass Road (NF 18) — are rough and heavily potholed, making high-clearance rigs and daylight arrival strongly advisable. The trailhead draws day-use traffic on weekends, but evenings tend to quiet down; cell service is essentially nonexistent throughout this stretch of the forest.
