      Gentry Creek Landing

      Nice campground

Really clean bathrooms. Spots are small and tight so bigger rigs I’d be cautious. Really nice lake views.

      Little Turtle RV & Storage

Nice, quiet, and with easy access to highway!

During the past five years, we've stayed at this park at least six times. It's a good overnight stopping point as we head back to Texas, with easy access from the highway and a nice dog park. If you travel with pets, then you know why that's important.

All the park staff we have ever dealt with were very friendly and helpful. The road from the highway to the park is easy to navigate for any size rig. The same inside the park; it's well-marked and easy to navigate. Even though it's close to the highway, you really won't hear much traffic noise, especially if you're at the rear of the park away from the roadway.

We were assigned to pull-through site number E1 with a concrete pad that is level from side to side. Power, Water, and Sewer were all conveniently located, and the power supply had no issues at all. We use a power management system, and all electrical parameters were spot on during our stay. Water pressure was very good, and the in-ground sewer connection was conveniently located.

NOTE: We always request space E1 because it is level, has a nice-sized shade tree that blocks the afternoon sun, and is close to the bathrooms, showers, pool, and laundry room. I've included several aerial photos of the park, and you will see that it is pretty full. Probably 90% of those staying here are full-time or seasonal. Row E is usually left open for travelers, so you might want to request a site on that row, as they are pretty much level. Even though the park has mostly full-time residents, it is nice, quiet, and well maintained. If it wasn't, we wouldn't continually stay here.

The bathrooms, showers, laundry room, and pool area are all located in one location at the front of Row E and are clean and well maintained with secure door and gate codes. Wi-Fi, Satellite, Cable, and OTA: We were able to get AT&T 5G with 3 bars. AT&T achieved 567 Mbps down and 6.43 Mbps up. Satellite reception should not be an issue at most sites, and if you do need totally clear access for satellite reception, there are sites available with no trees. We were able to get 30 OTA stations available, and they all had great reception with clear HD pictures. Cable and Wi-Fi were not available.

Dog Park: They have a very nice fenced-in park that is always in great condition. The park is divided for big and small dogs, and the large-dog area is very large with lots of tree coverage. They also provide doggie bags and a trash can.

Amenities: Lots of items are listed on their website, and you are only a few miles from town, where you can find plenty of stores and restaurants. Also, this is a Good Sam Park, so if you're a member, you'll get a discount if you let them know. Summary: A great place for an overnight stay, and I would not hesitate to recommend it- enjoy your stay!

      Cedar Lake (Oklahoma)

      Fabulous

This place genuinely is amazing. If you want to hike, there are more hiking trails and equestrian trails than you could actually accomplish even in fourteen days. The GPS points are all over the map. Essentially, come down to Cedar Lake. And there are two group campgrounds, a spot called shady lane equestrian, campground, and then the campground right on the water, they're all terrific. Most nights there wasn't anybody here. I spent four nights in the equestrian, campground and two nights in shady lane absolutely terrific.

Robbers Cave State Park — Robbers Cave State Resort Park

I stayed for almost 10 days

Stayed in the Equestrian campground with access to miles and miles of trails. It was wonderful and some of the best hiking I have done in quite a while. The hikes along the lake edges were great. There are horse trails id have loved to have done but it was time to move on. Of all the campgrounds, and there are many in the park, the Equestrian is the best if you want to hike.

      Marval Camping Resort

      Horrible Manager

Very disappointed in Marval Resort. The manager is very unprofessional. We have been going there since 2019 for a family reunion. This year was 59th reunion. I get a phone call on July 7, 2025 and was told we would not be welcomed back and when I asked why the manager could not tell me why. All that she said was several reasons. If it was such a big issue, she should have come to me or someone else and addressed the issue face to face instead of waiting until we left. My cousin had called multiply times to try and get this worked out and she would never speak or call back. When no response to phone calls she was emailed and finally responded to an email. The manager didn’t even have the decency for the closing signature on the email. It’s a shame that Marval Resort has someone like this running their resort. Very poor communication. Instead of coming to my camp spot talking to me about some cars parked on the grass and gravel in front of our camp spot out of the way of others she calls me in the middle of a big gathering and tells me they need to be moved because it rained that morning and the grass was wet. No, the grassy lawn area was dry in the heat of the afternoon day. There are so many staff members driving around on their golf carts and not a word was said. She was on her golf cart right by us and could not come face to face and talk about the issue. Now, that’s pretty unprofessional. We have 96 and 86 year old aunts and some others with walking issues. That’s why cars were there. Family was coming from their cabins or campers to the central area for family gathering. And as far as the pavilion parking that we paid money to rent. Again, for some elders and a few trucks hauling fish fry supplies. You booked a band that was playing on the stage right by the pavilion(that we paid for) and people could not communicate very well due to loud music. This also happened last year as well. So, you the manager don’t know who all the cars belong to. They could have been the bands or other guest not in our family. We have a large group that stayed there for 6 years in campers or cabins and spent lots of money there. There is a lot of issues the manager needs to take care of and get off her high horse. I thought this place is supposed to be family oriented. I will miss seeing Wayne(maintenance gentleman) there with his smiling face. He is such a friendly man. And one more thing, always talking about all the improvements they’re working on or going to do. It’s been the same for 6 years now.

    Guide to Keota

The region surrounding Keota, Oklahoma sits in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains at elevations averaging 600-800 feet. Forests of oak and hickory dominate the landscape, creating a backdrop for several lakes and rivers with varied water clarity. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing while summer days regularly exceed 90°F, requiring campers to prepare for seasonal extremes.

    What to do

Hiking trails: The area offers varied terrain from gentle lakeside paths to challenging forest trails. At Greenleaf State Park Campground, trails are well-maintained and clearly marked. "The trails at greenleaf are well maintained and marked. Their primitive camping is accessible and well kept," notes one visitor. Fall brings striking color changes to the hardwood forests.

Water activities: Lake Tenkiller provides exceptional underwater visibility. "Lake Tenkiller is an amazing location to scuba dive. Its waters are clear and cool from a distance of 8 to 28 feet. A diver will have the opportunity to investigate a sunken airplane fuselage, school bus, helicopter and two boats," reports a camper. Swimming areas are typically open May through September.

Trout fishing: Year-round fishing opportunities exist at several parks, including stocked trout streams. "Just up the road on the main lake they are building a new restaurant overlooking the lake. Kayak rentals and horse rides nearby. Plus lots of hiking," explains a regular visitor to the area. Fishing permits are required and can be purchased at most park offices.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: Robbers Cave State Park offers well-spaced campsites with natural barriers. "Site 23 was a pull through site with full hookups located only about 5 feet off the main campground road... The site then on the opposite side held our own little secluded spot surrounded by pine trees down a slight slope from camper," describes one visitor. These sites fill quickly during summer weekends.

Historical significance: The area has connections to famous outlaws and Native American history. "Lots of history at Robbers Cave State Park! Belle Starr famous Lady Outlaw! Jesse James Gang! Beautiful lakes and numerous hiking trails!" shares an enthusiastic camper. Several parks offer interpretive programs highlighting these connections during summer months.

Outdoor recreation options: Marval Camping Resort provides family-centered activities beyond standard camping. "Lots to keep the kids busy, we had a really good time. Campsites are pretty close together though so we didn't have the space or privacy we like but I know we will go back," notes one family. Organized activities typically run Friday-Sunday during peak season.

    What you should know

Shower facilities vary: Some campgrounds have outdated or limited shower options. At Brooken Cove Campground, "Bathroom doubles as shower, clean, up kept." However, another reviewer at a different park noted, "Showers need cleaning and water pressure is very poor." Many parks charge for showers, requiring quarters.

Wildlife encounters: Expect various wildlife throughout the region. "My first evening I wandered down to use the restroom and I observed a pack of turkeys quietly making their way down the ridge. It was magical," shares one camper. Snake encounters are also common, especially near water areas during warmer months.

Water quality changes: Lake colors can vary based on rainfall and season. "Little sketchy of the red/brown lake water to swim in and the bugs are massive compared to the desert," notes one visitor from out west. Water levels may drop significantly during drought periods, affecting boat launches.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Cedar Lake offers family-friendly facilities. "We enjoyed the scenery and peace. Would come again and again. Don't forget the ice, there's nothing close," advises one camper. Most playgrounds lack shade during summer afternoons.

Swimming areas: Several parks have designated swimming zones with varying facilities. "Early March for this visit and definitely winter scapes...but still beautiful. Trout fishing just steps away from camp and we had the whole campground to ourselves for the night," reports a winter visitor. Swimming areas typically open Memorial Day weekend.

Splash pads: Some parks offer modern water features for children. "The absolute best part of this park is the splash pad. It was the best splash pad we've been too. They had a cool slide and we had a blast," enthuses one family that visited during Labor Day weekend. Splash pads typically operate from 10am-7pm during summer months.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Many campsites require additional equipment for proper leveling. At Sallisaw-Fort Smith West KOA, "Sites are a bit close for our tastes but for a quick overnight it suited our needs perfectly." RVers recommend bringing leveling blocks for many of the older campgrounds.

Water connections: Bring extra hoses and connectors for shared water sources. "In our site we needed 50 ft of water hose and I would suggest bringing a 'y' water connector," advises one RVer. Some parks have widely spaced water spigots that serve multiple sites.

Campsite selection: Research specific site dimensions before booking. "I liked spot 42 which has the perfect view and lots of space, but the pad is on an incline and my jacks couldn't extend without using rocks that were already there for that very reason," notes an experienced RVer. Corner sites typically offer more space but may have challenging access.
