Natural Falls State Park is most famously known for its cameo in the 1974 movie “Where the Red Fern Grows” which was filmed here. Additionally, the park offers a 44 RV sites, with 7 of them offering hookups. Furthermore, 17 tent sites are available for reservation if you aren’t one to travel via RV or Van. Lake Wedington beckons visitors of many types, those who come to relax and fish all day, those who come to speed along on bike paths or cruise on a boat, and those who want to stay in a cabin as a lakeside home-away-from-home. The recreation area also offers convenient access, as it is located just 13 miles west of Fayetteville, and 13 miles east of Siloam Springs. The facility offers several rental cabins, campsites and picnic sites alongside its the lake. Each offers access to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. The area can be accessed by vehicle and a parking space should be available. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational activities at Lake Wedington. Those who enjoy water activities can go boating (with a motor that is 10hp or less), kayaking and canoeing, as well as fishing on the lake. Anglers can seek out Bluegill, Largemouth and Spotted Bass, Bream, and Channel Catfish, and several other species. Anglers who like a challenge can attempt to fish for one of the few large Grass Carp that occupy the lake. A former world-record Grass Carp was caught out of Lake Wedington, weighing a total of 80 pounds. Lake Wedington also has a dedicated area for those who want to go swimming, picnic, play a round of Volleyball or Horseshoes, and a variety of playground equipment. Surrounding the park, youll find trails that accommodate hikers and mountain bikers. The Lakeshore Hiking Trail circles a large portion of the lake. The North Twin hiking and mountain biking trial extends for sixteen miles from the facility. Hunting is not permitted within the recreation grounds of Lake Wedington, but there are sites surrounding the recreation area that are open to seasonal hunting. Visitors will find a variety of wildlife, trees, ferns, and wildflowers surrounding the 102-acre Lake. Wildlife in the area includes rabbits, deer, songbirds, and wild turkeys as well as an array of migratory waterfowl. In winter, eagles may be sighted flying around the park. Fall leaves put on quite a show, often attracting photographers. Sloping hills in the area offer great vantage points to take photos of the lake, especially from the Gazebo located just off of Lakeshore Trail. When the lake is high, hikers are presented with a cascading waterfall that can also be found when walking along the Lakeshore Trail. There are many natural features that can be spotted throughout the area to those who keep a keen eye out for them.
With Fayetteville approximately 15 miles East, Siloam Springs 14 miles West, and Lincoln/Prairie Grove within 15 miles South of Lake Wedington, there are many attractions to choose from. A variety of restaurants and food venues can be found in and around all cities and towns. In Fayetteville you will find a large variety of event venues, museums, shops, golf clubs, and theaters. In Siloam Springs you can find a variety of shops, group activity venues, and the Kayak Park. Around Lincoln you will find a few shops, restaurants, and event/activity venues. In Prairie Grove you will also find a variety of shops, restaurants, and parks. There are many attractions available at, and surrounding, Lake Wedington. So, guests will find a variety of options available for them to choose from in addition to enjoying the Lake Wedington Recreation Area.

I don’t normally leave reviews, but my experience at the facility needs to be shared.
I called the number provided and was able to find out info on cabin rentals . I asked what I would need to bring and a young girl explained just cooking pot and pans. I asked about a fire pit since I wanted to have a fire for hot dogs and marshmallows. Yes there are large pits was the answer. Thank goodness I camp on the regular, I’ll explain soon. She did warn me there are chickens near the cabin I wanted. Well good, I thought, I wouldn’t miss my own flock so bad.
Upon arrival, before noon, the office was closed. I walked back to my truck to get the phone number and saw a truck with a camp logo on it driving by, leaving…. Same young girl answers and says she is heading back to check me in. I get the key and drive over , get parked, and see the chicken coop, it’s pretty close to the cabin. The next thing I see is a big fire pit; full of trash! Flies everywhere! Well that can be cleaned up, right? There was chicken poo all over the steps and deck. That can be cleaned up , right? So I opened the door, flies and a dank smell hit me hard. . Nice. It appeared that the inside had not been cleaned either, sticky stuff on the stove, sink and fridge. The shower was a joke. There were extension cords running through a sliding window which left a half inch gap just open to the outside…. I plugged that with paper towels I had brought. There was a king size bed , but the pillows and sheets were stained. I found dead flies in the fridge as well. Before I brought anything in, I wiped down all of the surfaces. I spread my sleeping bag out on top of the provided bedding and covered up with a couple of blankets. I always bring towels as well, I’m glad I did, those are not provided either. I had also brought T - paper as a precaution, so glad I did…..
I really just wanted to make the best of this and I know it’s hard to keep these river cabins clean so I decided to tough it out. The next morning, I paid for my float and asked if I could have bags to clean out the fire pit… but then asked if THEY could clean it while I floated, the young girl handed me three trash bags and said “some one was supposed to get that”. I laid the trash bags on a log near the pit so they could be used.
My float went well and was great fun. Upon my return to the cabin, the fire pit trash had been burned and a plastic bag was still smoldering! There were still tin cans and other debris in there, and it stunk! So , I could not / would not use it for cooking or just lounging around! Later, I was hungry and decided to use the oven. When I opened it, there was a skillet with old moldy food in it! It smelled horrible and I gagged! I took a pic of the offending skillet and showed it to the other office worker; a lady and her little girl.
She said that she usually is the one that cleans , but she didn’t do this cabin this time.
She closed the office, called the owner, and removed the offending skillet. She stated there would be something done…. There was never an offer of compensation of any kind. My recommendation is don’t stay in the cabins.
The campground as a whole was just worn down and trashy. The staff were nice but didn’t really seem to want to be there.
Scoutcalled on June 27th to reserve a cabin for 6, Saturday the 2nd- 4th, At first was told they had no cabins available about 15 min after I made the call John the owner calls me back to tell me they had a cabin that was a 2 room available for theses dates and it was 100 per night and would sleep 6. I said we would like to reserve it. After hanging up called to inform my husband that we got a cabin then remember that I forgot to see if dogs were allowed, so I had to call back to make sure cause I can’t leave my fur babies. When I called it was a young girl that answered and said yes dogs were allowed and proceeded to talk about her 2 little puppies that were in the office with her. When packing and getting everything we needed together on Friday the day before we left we called to make sure the cabin had bedding and towels etc.. the young girl said yes. We get to sparrow resort on Saturday afternoon 2 young girls checked us in gave me a key pointed us in the direction of the cabin we pulled up to a cabin unloading all our stuff and unpacked was at this 2 bedroom cabin for approximately 2hours when John the owner came to this cabin told us we was at the wrong cabin I told them the key unlocked it. They said this was not cabin 2 and the people that reserved it would be up later so we gathered our things and moved to the cabin they said was ours that was next door. OH MY WAS WE LET DOWN. Mind you we have 2adult children myself and husband and 2 teenagers and 4 dogs they put us in a concrete prison that had missing curtains holes around the air conditioning window unit It was dirty holes in the walls. One king size bed a chair and a futon couch one room box. Bedding on bed only with a dirty comforter. For$100 a night not including the float trip. We were let down but determined to make the best of this we went to the store and bought bedding and towels and cleaning wipes. The next morning get up and noticed no one was in the 1st cabin still. So my daughter and I go to the office to get out float paid for and ask if we could get the bigger cabin since no one was in it told them I would pay more for it the little brown haired girl said yes then the other girl with a nose piercing said no it was booked and we should have had to pay a pet deposit of 15 a dog and we needed to pay this fee and was nasty with me. I said I wanted to by one raft and 2 tube rentals she keep saying and 60 pet deposit the brown haired girl rung up the float while the nasty teenager kept repeating and pet deposit the other girl stated stop worrying about the deposit and she kept saying it! The sign read tube float for 4 hours was only$20 and the raft was 25 per person for 4hours she charged us 30 x 6 people to float the 4 mile I said the 20 tube for 4 hours she nasty teen says that for just playing in the water😡 really the sign clearly says 4hour float only$20 and 25 for rafting over 4 people. I ask again about the other cabin the nasty girl said Chelsea and her 2 daughters were staying in it. Really because Chelsea and John the owner were the ones that came to the cabin the day before and Chelsea said she was the cleaning lady and John was the owner. Always we paid our pet deposit and float trip and tried to make the best of this regardless i a grown woman not to be argumentative with a child. This morning comes and we can’t wait to leave we cleaned the crap out of our concrete box prison and went to to office to return our key and get my 60 dollar pet deposit back and the nasty little teen was by herself while we started recording the whole encounter since day prior I ask for my pet deposit she said it don’t work like that I said excuse me you say deposit that means I get my deposit back if no damage was done. John came in and said what do we want he said you want your deposit here thank for staying and goodbye🤯wow what service. The best part the large cabin stayed vacant the entire time. The teenager that was running John’s business will be his downfall she don’t know how to treat people VERY DISRESPECTFUL!!! Will never be back!!

The wife and I rented a cabin April 2021 River was in flood stage. We were there to attend a group motorcycle ride. The camp management very hospitable. The cabin was clean and well-maintained. Enjoyed the stay we will be back.

This is the best place to stay when floating the Elk River. Lots to choose from, cabins, tents, campers, etc. Have a late night loop (for the partiers), sand volleyball courts, shuttle to a nearby open air dance club, huge store and restaurant with good pizza and breakfast buffet. The cabins are nice as well. This is our go to spot for the Elk River year after year. Canoes, rafts, kayaks, etc. They have a 5 and 8 mile float option, depending on river conditions.

Have camped here several times over the years and we have a large party that camps and floats together every year. This place is definitely a party camp. There is a general store on site that also sells food and ice cream. They definitely have you packed in there on the weekend and there are small cabins to rent if you are not a camper but want to float.

It is relatively primitive with the bathrooms in need of being updated but they were functional. The lodge side has cabins and canoes to rent. The sites have a table and a fire pit. Woody Trail Campground has lots of options. From walking tent sites with or with out electricity, RV site with hook-ups and even cabins, this campground has something for everyone. All sites are nicely distanced from each other. Campground roads are paved. Sites have picnic tables Metal fire pits, and BBQ grills. Trash service and water as well as flush toilets and showers available. Campground has a large pavilion. Play ground for the kids and horse shoe pits. Tent sites with electricity have covered picnic tables.
LegendA gorgeous park in the Ozarks National Forest close to the civilization in Fayettville Arkansas. This place reminded me of Lake Lure from “Dirty Dancing” with its historical buildings and beautiful lake. Super quiet at night, there were about 18 campsites in the campground (none with electric or hookups), all reservable. This was somewhat a problem as I lacked reservations. While the campground was almost empty (there were only 5 other campers), there were only two sites that were “open” for the night. An impending storm kept many from showing up, and by morning there were only 3 tents still set up. Each site had a nice tent pad that according to the campground host drained well (except for one site on the hill, can't remember which site number, which fortunately wasn’t available), grills, and fire rings. I ended up with site #10 with a great view of the lake. In fact the only thing really separating me from the lake was a nice bit of lawn and the lake trail. The hosts had put up solar lights along the path through the trees to the bathroom, which would have been helpful if not for the relentless rain that kept everyone from wandering about in the dark. In the morning I didn’t have to share the shower house with anyone except the spiders as only 3 other campers stuck it out through the night and their sites were closer to the other shower house. While not modern by any means, the shower house was clean and the water was hot. Just know that you will need to push the water button several times to get a good rinse as it only seemed to run the water for about 2 minutes a push. I didn’t drive over to check out the cabins, but I understand that you can rent a historical cabin if tent camping isn’t your thing.

We stayed here for a quick weekend getaway trip and it was fantastic. All the sites are gravel so when we had a few rain showers it did not cause a muddy mess for our campfire evenings. The owner was super nice and very communicative ensuring we had everything we needed. He delivered firewood we purchased to our tent while we were at the park and, he even stayed up past midnight to see us in as we drove up from Oklahoma. New camp store, nice clean bathrooms, new showers, and a quiet stay with amazing star gazing. Lastly the campground is 5 minutes to the river to fish. Would highly recommend.

ScoutWe arrived at 3 O'clock(an hour before check in) at Carsons cabin and they told us they were working on the showers. We waited until 5:30 to finally get the keys just to find that the showers were ice cold and NO ONE had even showered yet around 8pm! Then Saturday for our float the clerks were lost and kept trying to over charge everyone that paid in our group, even when I already paid my float deposit of$100 and was to go towards my own 4(2 adults 2 kids), she kept saying I owed. Then Saturday night we kept feeling things crawl on us, just to wake up to bites all over my 8 year olds body and a squished bed bug on my pillow that was full of blood and had just fed before getting squished! The supervisor apologized over and over but the owner still has yet to call me and fix this! I had to take my son to Urgent care because he had a severe allergic reaction to the bites and now I'm out even more money due to their bed bug problem! On top of that, we had to throw everything away so that we didnt bring any of them home! PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE AND WASTE YOUR MONEY! Vacations are suppose to be relaxing and this was not even close!

We chose to make a short Winter camping trip to Natural Falls State Park. A recent sleet and snow weather event and 20 degree weather didn’t stop us. Calls to staff were informative when we inquired about the conditions. We arrived late and our RV spot had been cleared by staff, hook ups were close and functional.
The park is a beautiful hike and place to enjoy a brief stopover or short getaway.

Worth the twenty minute drive from Grove. The remote location is great when you want to get away and feel like you are actually camping. The park is in the woods so almost all the spaces are shaded by beautiful old growth trees. We prefer this to the glorified parking lots that so many newer rv parks have become. The kids enjoy the outdoor pool and the lake views from the north side of the property are second to none at Grand Lake. Finally, the staff have been extremely friendly and helpful when we've stayed here and rates are great, especially for members.
TravelerNatural falls has been our weekend getaway spot for a few years now. It's normally pretty quiet, the hiking trails down to the falls are fun and challenging. They have added yurts which are pretty cool.
Tent camping is normally what we do and it's a great setup for that. The camping areas are spacious and flat for good easy tent setup. Water is centrally located in the middle of the campgrounds.
The restroom and shower areas have never been dirty and are always in clean working order. There is disc golf, a park, and playground equipment for your kids.
Definitely worth the visit.

Typical COE camp ground.. lacking full hookups and water at each site. The lower sites are waterfront but lack water and septic at the sites. There are a very limited number of larger RV sites .. the upper area sites are all smaller and again no water at the sites and no septic. There are restrooms near the sites but the shower house is all the way back at the entrance. There are 2 boat ramps and a swimming area. Th evilest are pretty special. The marina is ok but the management is meh. No rentals and the ship store is very limited. The best yet choice is the Hide A Way camp ground store or a store on highway 12.
TravelerWe stayed at one of the Premium Waterfront sites in early April and absolutely loved it! It looks like many of the people here have year-around rentals so I would imagine if you are booking throughout the summer, you'll want to get your reservation in as early as possible. Having a picnic and campfire area right next to the water was a unique experience for a campground and we would definitely stay again if we are ever in the area. One thing you will want to note is that you may need an electrical extension if you're bringing a towable as the electric is on the opposite side from the sewer and water. The campground does have a supply of these, if needed. Oh, and the wireless can be spotty depending on your site location in the park.

There are several campgrounds around the lake. I always stay in the Night Hawk campground at Indian Creek. There are a variety of hookup options for tent or camper/RV guests. There are shower houses with hot water, I have seen the crews regularly cleaning the bathroom/shower houses however be aware that there are still going to be bugs. Spalding beach is nice on hot summer days for swimming or just lying out in the sun. On Saturday nights there is a couple from the Corps of Engineers that do free activities for kids and families that we really enjoy. There is also a great restaurant, The Rustic Oak nearby that we visit every time we go to the lake. If you are looking for a peaceful weekend getaway this is the place!
RangerNatural falls was great you are blocked off from the falls themselves to help preserve them but it’s definitely a place worth seeing all the campsites are in really good shape even though it wasn’t fully our style of camping ( we like to be secluded) it was amazing everything was really nice there they had really clean bathrooms and showers one I actually didn’t mind using that never happens! The trails was pretty well maintained we kinda ventured off of a few trails and cut a few of our own, this place is just a great get away we will be back for sure! This is where the red fern grows movie had scenes shot at, we found the tree and you can relate a lot of the scenery to the movie as well! We covered all the trails and then some! You won’t be disappointed I don’t believe with this one!

When I came here I had but one reason to check out this area, the abandoned once amazing Monte Ne. As a bit of a novice urban explorer I was intrigued by the history of this once giant which featured the first indoor swimming pool in the state, hosted a presidential function, boasted a gondola to ferry those visiting the facilities and was a part of a man’s manifesto of greatness. Then it fell to hard times and eventually to ruin much like so many other locations.
So what makes this area so intriguing? The ruin is now being slowly swallowed by Beaver Lake and the once grandiose walls are now somewhat of an embraced location for street art.
Rogers has several locations you can camp, but this is the closest to the site itself. I was excited to check it out and as I drifted further and further away from the Rogers city it started to look more and more remote. While there were some homes which scattered along the roadsides there wasn’t much in way of civilization.
Then I happened upon my location of the Monte Ne RV Park, a quaint and secluded space which embraces the peaceful location of Beaver Lake and makes for a perfect idealist setting for relaxing. While it isn’t the most updated campsite I had seen it by far was not the worst and the staff in the front more than made up for any short comings of some weary benches here and there.
The typical person staying here while traveling is enjoying hiking and fishing along with boating and other outdoor based activities. It was a perfect location for access to the lake and though there were several people there, it didn’t seem crowded because the spaces are nice sized. There are more than a few long term campers here as well and much like any campsite which allows long term camping you can tell the difference in the residence spaces as they have skirtings on their RVs and plants outdoors.
I was able to find a tent site and settled in and was very pleased that it was very quiet. I met a couple that was also traveling and had been there a couple nights and they had said they had been out exploring a bit in the area and were quite pleased, even made a couple suggestions for me for my time at the location.
My site was typical in that it had a picnic table and fire ring. It did include electricity, which typically I am not concerned with but it was nice to have so I could charge my devices and edit some video.
Closer to nightfall I noticed several people were outdoors using their grills and moving around because the temperatures were a bit better. It was nice to see the community I was around and again the staff came around to check on everyone which was a very nice touch.

Trash - unfortunately when I drove in I noticed trash as one of the first things I saw, this looked like it had been tossed by people coming in and out instead of using trashcans

Well worth the stop to get to be so close to checking out Monte Ne. If I was to return to Beaver Lake this would for sure be on my list again!!

Nestled in the foothills of the Ozarks, Natural Falls State Park boasts a unique beauty which is unmatched through other state parks within Oklahoma. Perhaps best known for its beautiful waterfall, there are many other things to do here that make this a great place to visit during camping season.
I visited during the summer months, it was hot and sticky outside, but slightly overcast making it a perfect day to visit and enjoy the park itself as well as some of the camping options.
Exploring this park is fun as trails wind around and meander through some of the most beautiful areas of Oklahoma. If you are a person who likes mountains more than plains, this area of Oklahoma is one for you as lush tree coverage and rocky crags abound.
The campsites themselves are pretty typical of an Oklahoma campground. 44 RV sites, also which can accommodate tent campers who are in need of power and 17 tent sites are available in addition to yurts they have on property. Yurts are pretty common in many Oklahoma State Parks in this region I have found. The sites are pretty standard with fire rings, picnic tables and some lantern hooks, just the basic ground work laid for you to set up your own unique adventures.
When visiting I noticed that the Yurt section had no visitors during the week day and the campground itself was sparse as well. During the weekends I can imagine this fills up much more as it is a great place to visit.
Visiting is fun with lots to do including the hiking trails however they also have playgrounds, volleyball and disc golf. The one downside for those visiting during the heat of summer however is, unlike many parks in Oklahoma which offer swimming beaches or pools, this park does not have any swimming resources. This was not a deal breaker for me personally but I would think for many it could be.
A few things I noted that apply at the park that could be negatives to visitors passing through. They do currently have a reservation system, this can have both pros and cons. The reservation system is pretty easy to navigate but does state that on weekends you must book for the 2 days of the weekend no exceptions. When visiting the park in person I was told you can also get a site on the day of, however there is no guarantee of sites being available. Unlike many parks which hold a certain number for arrivals they are moving toward a fully online booking system like many other states.
RangerWhen traveling through Oklahoma, Natural Falls is a great place to camp. It’s on border of Arkansas and Oklahoma, near Siloam Springs. It’s peaceful. You can take your wheelchair on some of the trails and look at the Falls. There’s a steep hike down to the falls for those who can walk it. The road is paved and each site has cement pad. So if you have a special needs person with you they can get around with no prob. There is also discount for totally disabled people.
There are nice playgrounds, disc golf and trails. Camp in RV or tent. Definitely going back. Been twice already in one summer. (2019)

LegendThis was our first time to visit an Oklahoma State Park! We were blown away by the beauty of this oasis! The waterfall is beautiful. The yurts are really cool! The park was busy with lots of campers and day use hikers as well as families picnicking. Great park!
