Mohican State Park Campground provides exceptional equestrian opportunities with miles of well-groomed horse trails featuring creek crossings, steep hills, and beautiful pine trees. Horses are welcome throughout the primitive camping areas with high lines available at the entrance for securing animals. The park maintains a dedicated primitive horse camp area separate from the main campground, offering equestrians a specialized experience when traveling with their animals. Dogs are also permitted to accompany riders on the trails. The campground receives positive reviews from horse owners who appreciate the quality of the maintained trails and adequate facilities for their equine companions.

Located in Loudonville, Ohio, approximately 40 minutes from Chippewa Lake, Mohican State Park connects riders to an extensive network of bridle paths that wind through the scenic landscape. Trail riders can access multiple route options suitable for various skill levels, with terrain varying from wooded forests to riverside paths. Water access points for horses are available along several trail sections. The primitive horse camping area provides basic amenities with no electricity or water hookups directly at campsites, though potable water is accessible nearby. The park's trails remain open year-round, though seasonal conditions may affect accessibility, particularly during wet spring months or winter weather. Most equestrian campsites require advance reservations during peak season (April through November), while off-season camping may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

      best one we've been to

We camped here for the first time this year and ended up booking 2 more trips here. We just finished our last trip. We love this campsite. No other place has sites this big and give you this much space. Awesome place to camp

      West Branch State Park Campground

Great overnight close to Ohio Turnpike

We were passing through on a weeknight in mid September. Many open sites. Sites are paved and many are sloped. Most are shaded. Our site #41 was fairly level with electricity. Close to huge bathhouse with flush toilets, showers and laundry. High above the lake with views through the trees. Appeared there were many long term campers but just as good for our short overnight stay. Online registration. $45 for electric only site.

      Site 321 and 320

we come back to MW a few times each year as the access to the river and quiet nature of the campground is great. The playground is nice, the store is clean and well stocked.

      Malabar Farm State Park Campground

      Peaceful and Primitive

Second time here. Quiet, except for the birds chirping.

Only 3 other campsites in use on an August weekend.

      Water and pit toilet.

Enough At&t cell service to connect, but it's not great.

      Return campers

We return to Mohican wilderness a few times each year and love the sites we choose right on the river.

Most sites here are wide open field sites and would not suite our style of camping.

      Bathrooms are typically clean.

      Great Sites

We come back to MW each year and try to get the same sites (323-322) as they are very private with access to the water while still being super close to the store and walkable to the bathrooms:showers.

We love how peaceful it is and the play areas for kids. We’ll bring kayaks for the river which is cool but the last time it was too cold.

      West Branch State Park Campground

      Great park

First time at this park I can see why it's always booked up. It seems like the sites are good sized but some are on slopes even the pads so make sure to bring stuff to level. Bathrooms were clean separate showers verizon works well here.

      River of Fire

We came here during the 2024 River of Fire Event. The campground was packed but you couldn’t tell because the sites were all so spacious! Half the sites are right on the river which gives a good view and great place to fish and kayak(too cold on this trip). The event was very well organized and very fun to participate in. Staff was all very friendly and helpful! After the event many campers cleared out(end of season and kids in school) so my husband and I basically had the whole campground to ourselves for 2 of the days. It was extremely peaceful there and we look forward to returning.

      Ashland Fairgrounds

Great place to stop over night

Ashland fairgrounds has $20 tent sites or $35 full hookups. You may need an extension cord. All back in sites. Bathrooms are open and close by. No showers. Very clean and quiet. There were 4 others staying here. All were nice. If you arrive after hours grab an envelope and drop payment in an envelope. If you stay in the grass parking lot while no other events are going on you can stay for free.
